American Iron rolled into the 2016 Sturgis Rally Sunday afternoon and we haven’t stopped running since. No sooner had we wiped the bugs off our face then it was off to Michael Lichter’s industry party for his annual Motorcycles as Art exhibit. Skin & Bones is this year’s theme, reinforcing the fact that tattoo and motorcycle cultures are irrevocably intertwined. The display also pays homage to artist Richie Pan, a talent who we lost way too soon.
Indian unveiled its new Scout FTR750 flat track racer at Lichter’s party and brought out its new rider, multi-time GNC1 champion Jared Mees, to celebrate the occasion. Later that evening we witnessed the unfortunate incident when Roland Sands rolled off stage in between the Lita Ford and Kid Rock concert at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. Rock’s performance was delayed by a Sturgis thunderstorm that passed through, but like a trooper he took to the stage and cranked up his set around midnight.
Yesterday we took part in the Sturgis Buffalo Chip’s annual Legends Ride, the benefit ride bringing out celebrities and custom building stars alike. We topped off the night with the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert at The Chip, the Southern rockers a big hit with the biker crowd.
We’ve got another busy day in store as American Iron Garage Editor Tyler Greenblatt is headed to the Harley-Davidson Editor’s Choice Bike Show while I’m going to check out the Led Sled/Biltwell Sportster Showdown. Then tonight we’re riding over to Rapid City to catch the AMA Pro Flat Track Black Hills Half-Mile and for a little industry party with our buddies from Bates Footwear.
Be sure to keep an eye on our social media channels for posts from today’s Sturgis action and enjoy these photos we’ve shot in the meantime.
