Great column, Gen!
I sort of had the opposite problem with my wife, I have to get things for her that she doesn't ask for so her ride will be more comfortable. Now I'm getting a seat with a wider pillion area so she can go for longer rides without walking like some Quasimoto & John Wayne hybrid when she gets off the bike. After that it's some stirrups to add to the ISO pegs so I can quit peeling off what used to be rubber boot heel from the SE II's. And after that it's some better shocks and a higher sissybar. No, I don't have a "rail" as Gen described, and she though the mower sissy was going to be fine, but as we go for longer and longer rides she's wanting something she can leane more of her back on while riding. So I'm shopping the bay trying to find something. I knew I got the quickchange mounts for a reason when I bought the sissybar I have now!
And what does she want? She wants me to have a better ride with a helmet (one of those new Arai's that are longer from front to back) that won't leave me with a migraine and a windshield for windy days when she worries about the breeze making things worse for my head. When it's windy and she sees the breeze throwing me back she's back there pressing her hands into my back so I won't have to fight the wind quite so much. It doesn't help all that much most times, but that she does it speaks volumes, so I'm not syaing anything.
Oh, and when we went bike shopping, she was right there with me, making sure that not only was it something she liked, but something that I fit on (being 6 ' 3" on most Sporties I look and feel a bit like I'm on a Big Wheel) and "looked cool" on. How goo have I got it? I could say, but that's for a different magazine...
Oh, and while I'm at it... Honestly, I'd rather ride with other women riders or couples of riding with more that 3 bikes (including me/us). They're not out to out macho each other, like to take in the sites, not be in such a rush to get to the destination as fast as possible and miss the journey.
