I thought it was a duplicate!
I actually had to pull out my October '07 issue to find the difference between Doug Keim's street glide featured in the March '08, versus Mike Tellone's.
Other than a couple small differences (wheels, pipes) they look identical to me. Same FBI rear-end. same front fenders with single-sided brakes on the front wheels. same chin spoiler. Yeah, the engine builds were different, but it's hard to see that in a picture. They were both even on the same spot on the cover!
They're both beautiful rides, no doubt. But next time, tell Keim he's got to get it painted at least a slightly different color before offering to give out the free pub to DKCC.
Hey - one other suggestion, if I may... When you do "reviews" such as for the Road King in this issue, or any other factory bike, can you include MPG as part of the "specs?" I understand if you only took the bike for a short ride, and you were heavy-handed on the throttle, you might not want to publish those numbers. But if you'r riding a bike from CA to ND, you've got some 'real-life' numbers there which some of us might find interesting to know. I'm curious what some of these Big Dog, Victory, Harley, and other bikes compare. At $3.50 a gallon for high-test, it's starting to matter.
It might also be interesting to know how the various performance mods covered in your magazine (intake, pipes, big-bore kits, 6-speed transmissions, etc.) affect real-world mileage. I refer you back to the afore-mentioned gas prices, as well as strict emissions standards that seem to be all the rage down at the EPA.
And if you're ever looking for a bike to 'test' some of these mods, I have a 2003 FLHRCi (Road King Classic) which I'd be happy to offer up as a testbed for any of the following:
Engine performance mods (say, an S&S 124" or X-wedge swap into a late-model bike)
Suspension tweaks (someone got a fix for the 'vague' front end which you'd like to feature?).
Wide-tire conversion from FBI, etc. (I think my bike would look great with a 200mm rear tire.
I live in Central MA, and could have my bike down to you in CT anytime you'd like!
Thanks for putting out a great mag! I read it cover-to-cover every month, usually within a couple days of arrival.
