Default Classic American Iron

I can and do appreciate the amazing custom machines that show up at events and in our magazine. Real art. And I also appreciate the new bikes - getting better and better on almost all fronts. But I spend my onw money on the older machines that I either wanted when I was younger, or have grown to apprecite over the years. That's why we feature the classic American Iron bikes every issue. How do others feel about the old bikes, tech and history?

I may drop out halfway through some stuff but always read those through all the way. I like the history and the stories. That Panhead story was great too - the guy finding his buddy's Pan and bringing back to life long after the friend was gone - good stuff.

I love the old bikes also. I like all things mechanical, and I miss the days when you could literally fix your bike (or your pickup truck for that matter) with some bailing wire, a rubber band, and a matchbook cover when you got stuck out in the middle of nowhere. Its great to see an old motorcycle that someone found in a barn someplace and that hasnt run in a few decades, get coaxed back to life by a skilled mechanic (not some parts replacer). Dont get me wrong, I like the new stuff too, but the classic machines will always be special.

I enjoy viewing big and long choppers. And I sometimes think about purchasing a kit to assemble one. But I have come to enjoy the older H-D's and Indians even more. I subscribe to an American Classic Bikes mag even though my H-D is only five years old.

If I had to choose one of the two categories to purchase a second bike it would be the classic without a doubt. Those great Knuckles and Pans will never go out of style.

I really love the older bikes. I have a 73 XL that I am right in the middle of rebuilding. One of the biggest reasons that I subscribed to this magazine was because of the coverage of older bikes.

I finally broke down and purchased an 02 Road King Classic. My feeling is that the new technology exists because the old was OLD and in many respects, dangerous.
The new stuff looks and performs better.

Love the mag in any event and will continue to suscribe.
