On that subject I have often wondered how a Harley magazine can sell a 12 issue subscription for the cost of 2 or 3 copies of that Harley magazine. If they can sell it that cheap why not lower the price of the Harley magazine itself and sell more copies? |
Are you talking about buying it on the newsstand instead of the subscription price?
If you are then there are two additional parties involved.
The store that is selling the mag and the distributor.
Both take a large part of the selling price.
I doubt if AIM or any magazine gets much of the newsstand price.
When you buy a subscription, then you eliminate both and deal with just the publisher.
How can they do this, well there is no money in the sale of the mag, it is in the advertising.
What is AIM running now, about 160 pages, to 260 depending on the advertising. You would have a hard time printing a four color glossy for the price of subscription.
Add to that, cost of mailing and the cost of production.
What is the other iron magazine right now, last one I picked up was around a hundred pages.
Same with the bagger mag, under one hundred.
It is all about the advertising.
The advertising pays the bills.
Cheap Magazines are just that, they don’t have the advertising revenue to produce anything better.
That is why it is so important to patronize the advertisers of a quality magazine or paper.
Let them know where you heard it.
When you call make sure you put in the key that is in the ad.
You know 1-800 xxxx xxx dept AIM.
That or let them know where you saw it, they track this stuff and put there advertising money where it works.
As far as getting a cheap copy, take out a ad, I bet they will put you on the mailing list for free.

That or become a contributing writer.

Bargain Hunter could do that if he put his mind to it. And I know you could.
Heck, you never know, you might surprise yourself, maybe someday be as good a writer as Buzz.
