Default Brew Dude's Safety Alert

I greatly appreciated the safety alert by Brew Dude in the August issue of American Iron Magazine. His candor in giving us the details of his horrific experience with toxic substances may save someone a similar fate or worse. I truly hope he continues to recover. Thanks very much to him and American Iron for important information like this. Sincerely: Shovelmike.

Yeah! I read that... on page 148 Aug issue. When you clean something with brakleen an then weld it, the result is phosgene gas. that can kill... I never knew that, and I been welding since 1976!!!

Thank you for that article, and then mentioning it here in case someone missed it! That information could save someones life...

That article is getting a lot of response from shops that read it in the magazine and want to post it in their workplaces. This is the kind of thing I'm proud of about American Iron Magazine. Thanks Brew Dude!

Articles like this are a good thing. All to many people just don't realize the dangers of things they take for granted. Something else that came to my mind while reading the article is how many people keep things like Ammonia and Bleach where kids (or even adults) can get the idea of mixing them creating a DEADLY gas...and that's only ONE other example

I hope to see more of this kind of information getting around.

I learned the hard way about some chemicals I used and or mixed. Lucky no serious problems except a burnt mouth and throat from breathing the stuff in.

Lungs checked out okay.

This was a new one...........Who woulda thought!

Wow, what a story and thanks for sharing. Glad you're OK, Brew Dude, and experience a full recovery. I think we have learned at least one thing from his experience. I think something else to take home is that we should not wait several days to seek medical attention, especially if vision and balance are concerned! I know I would not keep riding my bike if it was making strange clunking noices every day. I'd stop it immediately and get it looked at!

Thanks everyone for the comment, emails and calls. Response has been great on getting the word out. A BIG THANKS to American Iron Magazine! Chris Maida called me several times a week when this happened. Still going to Drs trying to get my energy up.
Yes, I did wait way to long trying to tough it out. Being a 1 man shop/biz I tried to keep going but nearly lost out. Please read ALL your cans and check out the hazzards, just not brake cleaner.
Thanks again,
brew
