Default Possible Future AIM Project

I picked up a running, mostly stock 1971 Harley Shovelhead recently and am considering using it as the basis for a project bike. If so, we'd follow the build and modifications in American Iron Magazine.

My thinking is a mild, low budget custom, probably in the bobber style.

It is a runner with aftermarket on-the frame dual seat, straight pipes, S&S carb and the starter motor does not work. Drum brakes and what sounds like a mild cam.

Any thoughts or suggestions before we start turning wrenches on this bad boy?

That'll be fun; I'm looking forward to it. The only suggestion I could make, would be to point out how things were done then, as opposed to now. Some of the improvements, maybe how electronic devices have changed the motorcycle. How valves had to be adjusted, and adjusting the gap on the points. That way, some of the folks who think evos' are antiques get to see the heritage of their shiny new scooter.

I'm waiting for another rustoration with Mr. Dale, too. Think you'll do any more?

Would this be another "rustoration" or something else. I very much enjoyed Dale's 1924 and 1965 rustoration projects. What have you guys got planed next?

As for this shovel, keep it real. By that I mean something most of us could do mechanicaly and financially.
