Default Classic Harley Answers !!

The answers to all the questions Ive asked can be found in a book called " The Harley Davidson Century" by Motorbooks, MBI publishing; editor Darwin Holstrom 2002,2004.
The H on FLH was introduced on the 1955 hydra-glide. It stood for hi compression and became known as Harley's 1st factory Hi-PO offering. The entire Harley Davidson story is in the book. Including, and surprizingly to me where the slang term HAWG came from. It originated from the " Harley Action Workers Group" HAWG !! Looking at the apple of my eyes of 60s collector bikes the 1969 FL Hawg just became an item; 65 pan, 66 shovel, and 69 shovel which was the last flat side shovel before the AMF merger on 12-31-1969. So the 69 is a significant yr also; at least from my perspective. This book is 400 pages, about 30 bucks at Barnes & Noble. It has lots of great pictures and has already proven to be very interesting reading for any interested in motor Co. information. Im green at most about classic Iron, but Ive lots of experience in research. If all else fails, go find youre own answers!! LEL2

Thanks for the interesting info and the tip on a good book to add to the library. Knowing the history of the machine enhances the riding and gas stop experiences. Often quite conservative senior citizens walk over to admire the bike and share riding stories of long ago. It's really fun for me and lets them relive their youth if only for a moment. Ride safe and God bless. Sincerely: Shovelmike.

I was at Barnes and Noble the other day and they had the book on sale for $9.99 as well as a couple other Harley books.

I bought that book a few years ago and read it cover to cover immediately. I just moved and unpacked some boxes and as soon as I found it I started reading it again. For what its worth its best read while sitting outside on the porch/deck with a beer or two.

Default regarding the Harley-Davidson Century

Just did a search on Amazon.com and found a "like new" used edition for $5.27. I've bought lots of music this way in the past from Amazon.com connections and have always had good luck.

When things are tight its nice to have options like this.
