Default 1947 HD Servi-Car - What's it worth?

This question is a good one for Buzz since he seems to be the resident vintage expert dude but all are welcome to advise me on this search. I looked at this servi-car a few months ago and passed on it. Primarily because I'm not an expert and really needed to learn more before I pulled the trigger on one. Owner wanted 9,600 for it initially and later called and dropped it to 7500. It did run and seemed to be in pretty fair shape but I have no idea as to what they're worth. Any thoughts?

What few I have seen for sale have been around $6,000, but have been later models with hydraulic forks. That 47 looks real classy being a springer. Offer 6k and see what he does, he might take the offer or split the difference.

The photos look pretty nice but don't think the paint colors are correct.

Without seeing the bike and trying out various things it's hard to say what it's worth. Does it kick over with decent compression and no weird noises? Does it run without any issues? Does it shift and do the brakes work? Does the oil pump and electrics work correctly?

If yes to all the above $7,500 isn't a bad price, especially inthese tough economic times.

The Harley Servicars are strong runners, low compression flathead 45 cubic inch motors and a lot of fun IF you are in in a hurry to get any where.

As ShovelMike said, offer them $6,000 and see what happens. Looks like a basically correct bike. Have fun and keep us posted.

Join the Classic American Iron site, post the photos and ask the same questions. There are a bunch of knowledgeable people on that site. I would say that there are even guys on that site that can tell you from just looking at the photos if the tires hold the original air from 1947. The link is below.

Thanks for the advice. The trike above is long gone but I think I'm going to start looking a little more. Take my time and pull the trigger when the right deal comes along. I did see two go on ebay this week. A 67 and a 69, both complete restorations and one went for 10,200 and the other was 11,000.
