Default Prices

I don't understand why the prices of used Shovelheads is now often higher then used Evos.

I like Shovels and Pans but they are not as dependable as an Evo. Anyone have any theory on this?

I figure the Evos are considered just old bikes. But Shovels and Pans are collectors items - at least the nicer ones. Heck, I'd pay more for a decent flatside Shovel then I would for a decent Evo. Guess there are a lot of guys like me out there too.

Default Shovelhead Price

Wow! I"m the second owner of a 1972 FLH that's completely stock except that the original owner in the 70's painted the bike bags and fairing a red with silver inserts on it. It looks like he used a broom to paint it. Anyway, I dragged it out of a barn in the mid-eighties and redid the valves, rerung it and new brakes & wheel bearings. I rode it for years and it still starts and runs today AND doesn't smoke a bit. It's a bit rusty and I never did anything to the cosmetics, it was left as the "last used" look. I have another 72 FLH which is my pride and joy, but In Michigan you cannot give a Shovel away! I've retired and I thought I'd thin out stuff. But unless I want to pay someone to take the bike no one is interested in a stock dresser here.

Default Shovelhead Prices

As the owner of a 77 FLH, I am constantly looking for parts, upgrades, and new ideas. While going through listings here in IL or in WI I find a ton of nice (way nicer than mine) shovelheads with prices between $6000-$8000. Unreal! As shovelhead owners know, you can't just run down to the Harley dealer and get a whole lot of readily available parts for your shovel like you can an evo. Hunting for parts is almost as much fun for me as wrenching on my own ride. An adventure I love!!!

I'd rather have a shovel than a twin cam. Shovels are easier to work on. If people in Michigan are willing to "give away" shovels I'd be willing to take all I can get. What are they asking for some of the complete shovels there?

Like I said this 72 FLH is stock, I mean original mufflers, the big white Super Deluxe Buddy Seat with the shocks and that seat on a seat post you float down the road! The paint job is amateurish, but...?! Anyway the best offer I had was $4000 and I don't think he was serious. I believe it may have a lot to do with the economy, this state has been in the dumps for a while. There are all kinds of toys in peoples front yards as the times get harder. But I agree with you about Shovelheads I love them! About 40 years ago I started with a '60 Pan chopper and I bought a brand new FX in 1973 and I still ride a Shovel today.

The Knucklehead is a beautiful looking engine, but in my opinion the Shovel is the BEST sounding motor! They all have their own sound, but none of the other twins barks like the Shovel!

Give it away! Just let me know when and where I can pick it up!

Yes, good idea. Let me know where to park my truck the night before you give your bike away. I even have tie downs ready.
