Default Any Other Classic Indian Owners Here

I am fortunate enough to own a couple of old Indian motorcycles and am curious if other Indian owners are here. If so, what do you have and what kind of condition?

I've had my 1947 Chief for more then ten years but haven't started it in about two years. Now the battery is stone dead and I suspect the carb will need cleaning and adjusting for the wonderful ;-) new gasoline we have to run.

I also own a 101 Scout, which we just got running properly after many years of unreliable mechanical issues with previous owners.

In the past I owned a few other Indians including a pretty original 1953 last year Chief, a project 1947 Chief, a rare shaft drive 841 (I sold to a friend who still has it), a 741 bobber, and a military 30.50. Each time I sell an Indian I feel it was the right thing to do at the time, but eventually I kick myself in the butt for having sold it. Oh well...

A friend of my father's had a Chief in the late '60's, which he sold shortly thereafter unbeknownst to us. That was a shame, I might, just might have been able to persuade dad to buy it if the price was right. Dad was a mechanical genuis who was underappreciated by his employers in his short lifetime.

Hey Buzz,

I have 14 Indians including a 1935 Chief Chopper, 1937 Chief Bobber, and a 1946 Chief 86" Stroker with 5" S&S wheels and Shunk cams. I've had the 46 for 23 years now and RIDE it! SoCal to Sturgis in 1990 through 7 States, 1600 miles on one week vacations, and was my only means of transportation for quite some time. I have to admit some of the Indians from the tribe are Italian Indian dirtbikes from the Minimini 50cc to the 175cc and have two Indian Fourstroke mopeds. 9 Indian bicycles also grace my tribe. Contact me sometime and I'll send you some pics if you'd like.

The biggest reason I enjoy your mag is for the Indian content. I used to recieve Indian Motorcycle Illustrated 'till they gave it up. Nice to see a mag such as yours on the stands, don't stop with the Indians!

Honest Injun

With 14 Indians you own more now then I ever have. I'd love to see some photos of your machines - mostly interested in the 1953 and earlier ones.

Pop Shunk's cams were supposed to be the best.

Old bikes are my passion. I have a '46 Chief that I restored and ride when I can and a
'36 Sport Scout project that I am planning to build a bobber/period racer out of. I also have a '65 FL I built from a basket case and an original '70 FLH that I've owned for 30 years.

Not to highjack this thread but anyone interested in old American motorcycles including Indians and Harleys should also check out a sister on-line forum - Classic American Iron Magazine. It has an active forum AND an free on-line motorcycle magazine too.
