Default Rode My Indian Scout 101 FINALLY

After too much time in the shop sorting it out I finally go to ride my 1931 Indian Scout 101 in the Kick It Ride here in southern Connecticut.

She started right up and tok a long time to warm up. Then she didn't want to ride properly with no choke. I figure there's a problem with the float as it simply would not run strong at full throttle, off idle, or with no choke. She ran but not strong. Also noticed gas leaked out when the engine was off.

Well, she did make it out from my house to Danbury (Marcus Dairy) then to Indian Wells State Park in Shelton, and back home. I'm guessing about 150-200 miles in all (including a 60+ mph run on the Merritt Parkway out and a 55 mph run back).

What a beautifully balanced bike. I can't wait until I have it fully sorted and road ready.

When I get a chance I'll have to peek in the float bowl and see what I find.

Default How about a picture or two

I would love to see a photo or two. I knew you had several classics but I don't recall ever seeing one. I like to see both sides of a bike. I guess most feel one side looks better than the other but I like to see the exhaust, controls and the drive train. My wife thinks I am nuts but I like to study either the real thing or a picture to try to pick up all the details.

Sounds to me like the float is a good place to start. I wouldn't rule out a vacuum leak either.

Thanks to all. I am hoping to get some garage time this weekend to have a peak in the float bowl. And photos to follow on line and in print.

I removed the float bowl and found a swollen float that was starting to disintegrate. So I removed it, cleaned out the bowl and installed a new high tech float made of closed cell material from Tom Cotten at Liberty Motorcycle Products.

Seems to work well, but way too cold now to go out and ride and find out for sure.

Is that it in your avitar photo?

How about a larger photo of the Indian motorycle here? I've always liked the looks of those old Indian 101 Scouts.
