Default Rode My Indian 101 Today

Weather is finally getting almost decent. I had an hour free so I cleaned up the garage a bit and fired up my 1931 Indian 101 Scout, ket it warm up and rode it around the neighborhood.

It ran reasonably well but was leaking oil out of the top end and wasn't happy idling. I guess it's time to tighten the headbolts and fiddle with the carb. Even though it wa a short ride, it was a ride and felt pretty good.

Anyone else ride a classic yet this year?

How about some photos of the old bike for those of us who don't know much about the old iron?

Is that a photo of your Indian in the signature?

Is that what it looks like today or have you changed it around at all?

I fired it up tonight and rode it a little around the neighborhood. Once it warmed up this 1931 Indian 101 Scout ran pretty well. And better after I pumped up the tires a bit.

Here's a photo I took of it last fall. I have since redone the float in the carb, swapped out the tail light shown here for a real one, and added a nice set of saddlebags.

If the weather doesn't get too hot, I am planning on riding it over to a local car show on Sunday and then up to Rhinebeck NY next weekend for the AMCA meet and 101 Scout owners club meet and ride. We are sponsoring the AMCAS Timeline and the Rust or Shine motorcycle show there.

Wich me luck on my 76 year old motorcycle.

Good eyes. Yes an alternator (which I have since spary painted black to make it look less obvious). Also wrong headlight and a recirculating oil pump from a later Scout. A few other "update" items to make it run better and stronger that are not obvious to the eye.

I rode this bike to a local historical society deal in town on Sunday and got lots of attention - especially from a neighbor who rode over to my house on his Panhead and saw me start it on one kick.

I still need to decide it I should chrome the crash bars to match, front and back, remove the rear ones, or paint them all black to match. Oh well....
