After owning and working on my 1931 Indian 101 Scout for almost 2 years it made it's first major appearance last week at the AMCA Rhinebeck NY rally.
The 101 Scout Association had a meeting in the larger AMCA meet and sponsored a road run for club members and their Scouts on Saturday morning. We had 7 Indian 101 Scouts on the ride and I'd guess it was about 50 miles of so.
Here is a photo of my bike before the run. I am pleased to say my bike made it out and back with no major problems AND it was by far the fastest 101 on the ride - thanks to the Butch Baer hot rod engine and George Yarocki's impressive knowledge of these amazing little bikes. Thanks too to Randy Walker for fiddling with the clutch the day before.
After seeing the other 101 Scouts and comparing them to mine I have since painted the chrome rear crash bars and seat springs black to match the rest of the bike. I am taking my time going over this bike and making changes as needed.
While it is now seventy-seven years old I believe I could ride this bike on tours so long as we stay off the highways. It can cruise at highway speeds but I'd not have much fun that way.
