Unhappy First Classic Motorcycle Ride of The Season

Fired up my 1931 Indian 101 Scout motorcycle this morning for the first time in many months and rode with my pal Dean (he was on his original Panhead) to Marcus Dairy for breakfast. The ride out was about a half hour and the bikes ran great.

At Marcus Dairy. other than another 1940s Chief, we had the oldest bikes there. On the way home my old Indian started running funny and I smelled raw gas. Looking down I discovered the metal fuel line had split and was spraying gas all over the place.

At a local gas station I shut off the petcock and dried off the line. Then I wrapped it in several layers of tight electric tape. To make a long story short, I did manage to limp the bike home, but am wondering if my pal Dean is a jinx when riding a classic motorcycle. This is the third time I have ridden with him when something happened to put my bike to the side of the road where I had to fix it before being able to ride it back home.

For more details on this read about it at our classic American iron site at www.caimag.com.

Aw, he aint a jinx, he is just happens to be there while you gain a more memorable riding experience. I bet if all rides went smooth, you wouldn't remember them as well...
I dont remember half the rides I went on a couple years ago, but I do remember the ride when I had to fix my carb with a zip tie and a pebble we found laying along side the road where we pulled over.......(zip tie to hold the smog crap butterfly open, and a pebble to plug the smog crap vacuum line)

Glad to hear you having fun on the bike this time of year. seems like metal fuel lines are prone to failure from the vibration. can you install any kind of flex line in there(hidden from view to appear stock, if you can), or are you keeping it all completely original.
