If my memory serves me correct, within the last year, an article may have run in AIM about some valve stems which supposedly were stock replacements for the existing stem used on the rear wheels of baggers and cruisers. Problem; the stems may have been too long, and at speed would clip the brake caliper, break off, and cause a blowout. They came from a foreign manufacturer, I believe.

I have a bud in our Harley group who has friends whose bagger suffered a blowout resulting in severe injuries to both driver and passenger. The riders said the blowout came out of the blue. The official "cause" of the accident on the police report, was unknown, and no puncture marks showed in the tire after the crash. But an examination of the rear tire revealed the valve stem chopped off on the end. When I mentioned this article him, he asked if I could locate it, and he'd pass it along.

I've looked, but can't find it. It was a part of tech article of some sort. Definitely in 2009, though. Can anybody direct me to the article.

Thanks in advance,

No pictures yet. My back is killing me. I started at about 7:30 this morning.
Today I installed the bearings in two new Chrome textured wheels for my Lowrider. I used a threaded rod, a 1 3/16 socket and various washers to press the frozen bearings in.
I mounted both the tires and aired them up.
Then I put my bike up on my new J&S Jacks Lift. Solid as a drum. I wrenched and pulled and torqued and it never moved. I could sit on my stool and reach the nuts under the dog bone to remove the exhaust.
I pulled the front and rear wheels and removed the brake disks and the sprocket and installed them on the new wheels.
A short trip to the local 4-wheeler Kawasaki dealer to have the new wheels balanced for $20 bucks.
Then back to the house where I installed the new wheels and tires on the bike and wrapped up the installation of the exhaust. I finished at 2:30. Not bad for a rookie. I hope they stay on.;)

Been wondering whether anyone else has thought about replacing their 19" front wheel/tire with a 21". Understand '04 Dynas run a 1" axle & many 21" wheels use 3/4" axles. Guess I have two questions I can think of:

- Has anyone else done this who would be willing to share information?

- Is there a direct fit wheel I can use on my 39mm narrow front end?

Thanks.

I have a question for whomever has already installed wheel bearings before.
When you push the bearings in the wheels, is there a cut recess that stops the bearing at some point?
This is for either spoke wheel hubs or cast aluminum wheels. One answer each or for both if they are the same.
