I was watching a Youtube of a drag bike warming up in the pits and was wondering about something . . .

They start the bike with the rear tire off the ground. After cracking the throttle a couple of times, the rear tire stops spinning. Someone grabs the tire near the top and rotates it a few degrees backwards --- the tire immediately spins forward as if it was spring loaded. They do the same thing a second time. A crewman is crouched near the rear tire but he's on the far side so I can't tell what he is doing but it looks like he is holding something near the axle or brake area.

Any idea what's going on?
