Angry Future of Wide Glide

I herd that Harley-Davidson will be dropping the wide glide in the future does anyone know if this is true & if it is what will be the last year? And what is up with the 2008 FXDWG only in the anniversary color . There are other colors out there.

Default Fxdwg

Wife works at HD Dlr. story is no more after 2008 and only making 1500 of the 2008 model.
New models since frame change gave it a longer rake it is even less stable than before. I'm also an owner of a 2000 fxdwg. To Bad, bright side might make ours more valuable.

Default Nixing the WG

That news does not suprise me.I have no experience on a WG, but have heard that it can be a so and so to handle. Any scuttlebutt on a replacement? Or is the Fatbob gonna be it?

If it's true, what a shame. It's the only bike in the Harley line-up that gives you the custom look yet has a good ride for those longer distances! Give us an update if you hear anything more Tipper.

Thanks for the info tipper. I had a feeling that 08 was it, with the offer of only the 1 color. The Wide Glide is a good fit for people 6 ft or taller (I'm 6'2") the only other option might be FXSTC or Geezer Glide, (my 98 Anniversary is very keepable)

(Fonda was right)

Thing is if HD had left it alone and not gone to the new frame, with a set of fork braises you could fix the problem. But the new frame extended the fork out about 4 in further from the frame and added 2 in to the rake which apparently caused a lot of drops.

That's a great point. I've found the Dynas to be an excellent ride for long distances as an alternative to a touring frame. I've noticed a trend over the years. Looking back a number of years at a small little local rally I've attended, at one point I saw wide glides lined up as far as I could see. A few years later mostly Fat boys and other softtails. The last few years...mostly Road Kings and Glides. Of course there are lots of bikes of all types but interesting that there are so many baggers when a large portion of the owners I have talked to don't have the interest in touring but using them as commuters and hoppers and day riding, etc. That type of riding was dominated by an entirely different style of bike a few years ago. Strange to see that shift. Maybe some of the ones who choose the style of the customs care less about ride and the Wideglide is just loosing sales for the Moco and they have better sellers to take it's place in that market. hmmm
