The Harley-Davidson Motor Co. will close five plants for a week in November as a result of the motorcycle company's plans to scale back production.
The closings will occur the week of Nov. 26. Employees will not be paid for the week, but company officials said health coverage will continue.
Harley announced Sept. 7 that it had lowered its sales projections for the third quarter and for the second half of 2007 and now says unit sales will be lower than last year.
The company now expects a modest decline in revenue for 2007, and earnings per share are expected to be down 4 percent to 6 percent, in the range of $3.69 to $3.77 a share.
"The company believes this solution is the best option for balancing the needs of our stakeholders while doing what's right for the long-term prosperity of the company," Harley said in a statement Friday.
Harley-Davidson now projects third-quarter shipments of 86,000 to 88,000 motorcycles, down from a previous forecast of 91,000 to 95,000 units. CEO Jim Ziemer also said it no longer expects worldwide dealer sales to increase during the second half of 2007. Coupled with a decline in unit sales in the first half of 2007, unit shipments for the year are now expected to be lower than in 2006.
Getting laid off without pay, right before Christmas really sucks sh@t through a dirty straw!
I believe they would like the employees to not drive a week to save on petrol. This saved petrol will be sold to "Honda" at a profit, to make imitation plastic parts for their Harley Knock offs.
Floodgates: I ask you again. What is the benefit of you being on this Forum? You make fun of the Harleys and have given no mechanical input to those asking questions. Ya here to contribute or just poke fun. If its the later get to steppin......

I don't know what you're talking about... this was a serious post. As far as making fun of Harleys, are you guys not making fun of Hondas? Read your above post...
Oh yeah I forgot... I'm an avid reader of AIM (mostly for the customs). So you think that because you have Jr. Harley you have more right than me to be here? BTW, I meant it, when I said it sucked for the workers to be laid off before Christmas!
Dude, what do you expect? Chips and a beer? You offended several people here, and YOU threw the first rock. I asked several questions to determine if you were serious, or "jesting"... you never answered one. Every one of your posts will now be viewed as an attack... that's just how it is. Obviously, I'm not the only one.
You can hang out and do wutever, doesn't affect me, but my opinion is you will never be taken seriously.

Here is the first stone:

"The bike you posted looks like a toy to me but opinions vary."

And as far as workers being fine, yes they will be, but I'm sure many live paycheck to paycheck, and missing one before Christmas will hurt. And for what, so the dealers don't have to sell retail and inflate their prices?
No, pushing the idiotic idea of a Honda being an american motorcycle amongst Harley fans was the first stone. You could be a politician... you've even convinced yourself.
Let there be no mistake about who started this crap, and why you are here.
All BS aside guys, I think the workers should be fine. This is just like a weeks layoff and from what I understand they were allowed to use vacation if they had it so they could get payed. I would hope with the money these guys make in the plants that they are not living pay to pay. If they are then they are living outside their means. I worked a place once where we got layed off every fourth week for six months and I did not struggle, it wasn't fun but I did not lose my ass.

Tell you what is idiotic, my confused friend. People trying to convince me that a VTX isn't made in America. Big sticker on it "Made in America" Marysville, Ohio.... and that's throwing a stone? Duh! I asked you what your sticker says... I'm still waiting for an answer. But that's in another thread.
