Default Charity Refuses Biker's Contributions

Found this on another site and couldn't believe it. Check this out.

The Sunshine Foundation (similar to Make a Wish) refused a $20,000 donation from the Big Balls Run - a 17-year old biker event that has raised over $100,000 for the charity. It looks like the foundation decided it did not want to be associated with "bikers" anymore.

The news article is located here: http://www.tillsonburgnews.com/News/363222.html

Unfortunately I couldn't find a contact email for Michael Barr, President of the Sunshine Foundation (http://www.sunshine.ca/) to tell him what an ass they are but I'm sure another charity will be happy to take the money.

Doesn't sound so smart of the charity.

Wonder if they are as picky about who they give charity to?

While I haven't been involved with bike charities, I've worked charity events with other groups that aren't as accepted. I've never heard of anyone turning down the donation.

It certainly doesn't encourage me to donate to them as a private person when they've turned down a donation from a fundraising event.

Not a revelation & they got some press out of it. I know more about the charitity scam then the guy on the street. I had a big war with "United Way" many years ago & the mandatory pay roll deduction at a large company I worked for. I had some death threats & other such nasty crap & I went to the newspapers. The ensuing investigation found that the chairman of UW in this small town made 200 grand a year but the best was that when the books were looked at it was proven that only 2 cents out of every dollar contributed actually reached someone in need. The larger they are the more apt they are to be corrupt.

There are a lot of charities that accept "biker doantions". I've read in several magazines that bikers do more for charites than any other single group in the nation. Seems like the last time I saw that was in Time or Newsweek last year. Where would the Marine's Toys-for-Tots be without all of us former service member bikers? We did two T-F-T events this year.
