| | News flash HD is actually producing as many or more bikes than are demanded making resale prices go down and also reducing prices of new bikes. Msrp has not risen much for new bikes in the past 5 years and now most dealerships wont get more than msrp for a new bike. They may even deal once the '09s start coming out I know my local dealer was selling '04 softails for $14,000 when they went to the 200 rear tire. |

| | I visit and speak with a lot of Harley dealers and most of them say business is way down. A few says they are doing great. Even here in the northeast.
I get regular email flyers from NewRoc Harley ( www.nrhd.com) offering new bikes below list. So some of the dealers are getting agressive in their sales. |

| | Yesterday my wife and I were in PA to look at a bike and while we were there we stopped at Baer HD in Honesdale PA and they were hopping. Of course it was a Saturday. Recently my financial situation has changed and I'm on the prowl again. There are plenty of deals to be had out there! This is for the Harley dealers!

| | Sauk Prairie H-D (Wisconsin) seems to be doing okay. The economy is sure to make some people nervous, but here in America's heartland spending and borrowing tends to be more cautious than in some other parts of the country. The housing problem is noticeable, but not as devastating as in other parts of the country. The tax rebates that are coming may not do much in and of themselves, but they may have the effect of giving people a sense of confidence in the economy and help mitigate the effects of the recession or whatever it is we've go going on.
Ride safe and have fun.
Life is short.

| | Stopped at Rocket HD in Madison, AL yesterday. They had a 3 day tent sale going but bad weather surely put the dampers on it Friday and Saturday. Sunday it was packed with people and the tent was chrome from one end to the other. Don't know if they sold anything but they sure had the traffic. |

| | Stopped at the local dealer's again yesterday. Still not moving any bikes that I could tell; except they did sell a new one to the local police department.
Get this...the police traded in a 2006 Road King Police edition with literally no accessories on it. It has an aftermarket seat and passenget backrest that appear to be the cheapest the cops could find. Seat is cheap looking and hard as a brick. The bike has 1600 miles on it.
The kicker is they have a $16,500 price tag on it. As near as I can tell from Kelly Blue book and NADA the thing lists for $13,000 max. retail.
This is what we're seeing here in lovely Illinois...high prices and low trade in offers.
I e-mailed the dealer and asked him why the price was so damn high; but didn't get a response. | | | |
