The road King and I make 165 - 175 (Kph) on a regular basis. It's a comfortable cruising speed. I think there's a speeding law in this country, but I'm not real sure what it is. in days gone by, my rigid only days; my srtoker Pan would nudge a century just about any time we went for a ride, be it bar-hoppin' or a real ride. My shovel liked to cruise around ninety; but felt pretty good at about 105 - 110 too. Had a 26 tooth tranny sprocket, 4.5" flywheels a bendix and a little ole J grind, running a mousetrap, had to clearance the clutch arm to clear the sprocket and chain. I loved that Bike. Not a day goes by I don;t regret selling her, and that was thirty years ago; damn-near exactly.

Bought a Honda 150 CBR after I moved here. It'd go about 140 (mebbe 80 mph or so?) felt about twice as fast as the RK at 175. teh RK; my first windshield, gotta love a 100 MPH, one hand cruise.

I gotta say that the last time I came home from Sturgis on my Valk, I went through most of WY cruising about 110-115. And it had way more throttle. Now, on my EGC it seems like 70-80 is fine with it, and me. I had more confidence with the Valk. My glide seems to wallow about. I need to look at the air in the shocks and make sure the front fork tubes are serviced properly. Ya, I'm 55. I don't need to go 100+. Been there done that. If I wanted to do that I would have gone with a street rocket. This is a cruiser. I knew that it would not like going real fast. It keeps me in line.

so, i have been reading this post and think when the po-lice saw the videos of the guys on the busa doing 180 or something like that and have refrained from taking part in this post...untill now, i cant help it! years ago, when i was much younger and braver(read stupid) i had this really cool bike. it was a khj kawasaki 750. two stroke triple. one night i decided to open it up. from standstill on onramp to end of short onramp 100....finally let up on it when 1/4 fairing started tapping me on the back of the helmet, 160 mph. went home and changed shorts. that was enough for me thank you. it had more but i never fully found out how much more.
my wide glide cruises very nicely at 110, stock motor and cam, but with pipes and some speacial air cleaner from harley that they dont offer anymore but was available as a hop up in 1996. i only went up to that once to see if she could and that was enough. usually stay at speed limit or what surrounding traffic is running so i don't get runned over.

I crack the throttle on my FXDL to 110-115 (particularly on HWY 50 (MD) on a stretch where there is a solid center divider where cops can't set up radar. Other times and locations I get the "wild hair", I don't keep it up for much more than a mile because I don't want to get pinged by the cops.

166 mph on my Hayabusa. However, the GPS only said 152. That's how far off the spedos are on these crotch rockets.

Sold the Busa and bought a Road King for a more sane ride.

But I must say 152 on a Busa feels a heck of a lot more safe that 100 mph on the Road King.

Uncle- Man........Your needle is below 100MPH. Looks more like 98.53261475 MPH. I think you got scared and let go of the throttle to put both hands on the camera to take a pic. Chicken............Could have used your knee to keep the speed up.

Aw shucks.... I guess I did catch it on the decel from 110..... (I just missed the 100 mark when the camera clicked)

Now the picture I would have liked to have gotten when we crossed the Mojave, would be from the vantage point of the bike behind me as we were going 80-90 mph with a huge cross wind that I had to lean into and had the bike leaning over approx 45*. I held that lean for almost a whole hour.... I would rech down with my left hand and try to touch the ground every once in a while.... but all that would do is grind the leather finger tips off my gloves....
I was amazed at how steady that cross wind was...no low pressure pockets that would rock the bike etc... it was a divided highway, so oncoming taffic was far enuff away that they didnt affect the cross wind. It was real fun.

My first bike, a '63 Triumph 650 was brand new plus 500 miles (just broken in!) when I was cruising in Indiana (I'm a Chicago boy) on July 4. Traffic was a little thick, and I waited for a big gap in front. I laid on the tank and dialed it up and hung on. When I'd had my thrill and ran out of space I slowed down, looked in my mirror, and there was the Fuzz with the red light flashing. I pulled over. He got out, and was laughing! "Didn't you see me? I was right behind you when you took off. How fast did it go?" I admitted that the speedo showed 100. "Well, I'll write you up for 15-over. That way you won't have to come back for a mandatory court appearance." Not a bad dude.
