Default 2009 Street Glide

Anyone go from the older style touring frame to one of the new touring bikes with the upgraded frame? Looking for an honest review. Seriously considering a purchase this winter. Thanks. Botz

Hey Botz -

I doubt there's many 2009 cycles sold and on the road this early... your best bet is to try to get on one yourself. A lot of dealers have been offering demo rides in conjunction with open houses.

Since the re-designed frame is the new cool thing this year, I would think that they would have both an '08 Bagger for you to ride, and then compare to '09 and feel the difference. At least if it was me, that's what I'd do. Plus we all know most dealers still seem to have plenty of stock in '08's still on the floor.

If you strike out with your local dealers, I know the York, PA factory has an open house, along with demo fleet, around September 25th-ish. If I recall, you're in Strong Island, so York is a nice trip.

Good luck if you decide to go for it... The new frame sounds like it's the greatest thing since frozen juice... Makes me wonder if I should have held out another year. Nah, love the one you're with...

I went in to the local dealer to see the new touring models...The salesman said that they don't have any set up at this point to look at...There was a ton of 08 models still on the floor...maybe they don't want to display the new models until they have to...sounds kinda fishy to me....I bought my 07 StreetGlide right off the floor in the middle of August 2 years ago....here it is the end of august and no new bikes??...

The dealers by me have them but arent showing them until they get rid of the old stock. I have a friend at one of the dealers here on LI. I have seen two on the road already but couldnt talk to either of them. The pricing will determine if I buy or not. I dont plan on spending more than 22K out the door. Less would be better but..... on the other hand I considered building a kit bagger but ya never know what the end result will be price wise. Botz

Botz, Lighthouse Harley has them on the floor. including the Street Glide. Not recommending Lighthouse for purchase but if you want to see them, the last time I was there ( a week or two ) they had them.

Hey Botz

The local nearby dealer out in here Walnut Creek, Ca has 'em and the salesguys were practically begging me to take one for a test ride. I was just there picking up parts and I said I definitely wasn't going to get rid of my FXR and wasn't really interested but the sales guy still wanted me to take one for a ride, no strings attached. I guess Harley is seriously wanting to get the word out about the improved handling of the new 'Glides. Check 'em out for yourself. If your dealer won't let you ride one the tell him you're going somewhere else.

Good Luck

Oh yeah, the saleguy assured me I could get a nice basic Road Glide for under $22k out the door. Of course the real reaming comes when you start adding the options. Personally I preferred the look of the Street Glide but they're lowered in the rear by 1" which cuts down on cornering clearance. As you can see I was much tempted no matter how much I protested about my loyalty to my FXR. You know, "What would a little test ride hurt.....?" (sigh).
