Default New HD Synthetic?

Is HD coming out with a NEW synthetic? The reason I ask is this: I stopped in my local HD dealer today, and they have all their synthetic transmission and primary oil on sale for $1.00 a quart, NO LIMIT! I'm gonna pick up a few qts. tomorrow. But WHY?

Why ?
Who really cares !?!
Well..here's the way ADVERSTING & MARKETING works in part at the RETAIL-STORE level.
Make a "loss-leader" offer below cost...create store traffic..set those items at the rear/middle of the store...and hope/expect that enough suckers ('er customers) will buy "whatever-else" at regular prices between coming IN the front door and going OUT again...at YOUR store NOW vs LATER or elsewhere...noting that you'll probabley be telling others (like you have here) about the great deal you got at THAT dealership

My suggestion...buy as much of the "loss-leader" item(s) as you expect to want/need and can afford, etc as in why not ???

Well, I went back and this is what's on sale for $1.00. Yes, that's the FULL price, $1.00. No limit.

HD Sport Trans for XL's
HD Semi-Synthetic for Primary and Trans for FL, FX, 4 and 5 speeds
HD Semi-Synthetic for Trans for FL, FX, 4 and 5 speeds

next question.......is this OK to use in a new 6 Speed tranny?

Buy Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof for your 6 speed, you won't regret it. Very smooth shifting and no whine.
Buy up all the formula + you can for the primary, very good lube for the primary and the price is right.

Thumbs up

"Yep"...what street said.
I mean I can't vouch for for the Redline Shockproof,myself...because I've never used it and don't have a 6 spd trans...but friends have and swear by it.

That and IMO at $1** qt...The Formula + for your primary would be a steal...buy all you think you'll ever need at that price.
It's labeled for trans use too...but I for one just would'nt trust in it enough for that, in any trans.

you know this is harley eating crow, so take advantage of it ,its nothing more than what is way over due us. i would not use the harey oil in the tranny , i use bel ray and am happy with it.
Harleys cam shoe issue has really hurt them, look in the 05 maintenance /shop manuel for sale and in it your will find a picture of worn and broken cam shoes. its in the rebuild section and is called a service. if it were a truely service item it would be listed under maintenance not the rebuild section. I.E. harley knew their bikes had the problem, it was suppose to be a money maker, off people who bought harleys as a status symbol.
and only putting 1000 miles or so a year on them the problem wouldnt show up under warantee and wouldnt be noticed for years.
Harley is the best looking bike there will ever be, its very much like a Norman Rockwel painting. Its apple pie , its base ball hot dogs at yankee stadium. the twin cam could be a rock of gibralta engine, when they decide they want it to be.
till then the rest of us are in mechanics training. I buy after market parts because they are after market parts, if harley makes a better part i need i buy harley. but only if therer isnt a better part out there.
in this way harley only gets what it earns. go ahead and buy cases of the oil if you wish and save money- its about time the harley people get a break. by the way harley change out a battery for me without charging for time used after the 6 month clause in the battery warantee,
for free , who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks, they are learning, slow but they are learning.

Primary, not trans

Same oil can do both.

Same oil can't do both well.

90W-140 Semi syn gear lube for the tranny. From the auto parts store.

Bel Ray tranny may be better, if you can find it locally.

Anything else that corresonds like redline, etc, is OK. Just make sure it's a gear lube and not a 20W-50 motor oil. Which will work, just not as well.

Trying to find bel ray oil locally is like seeking the holy grail.

I used Formula+ in the six speed tranny and primary of my '07 FLSTC this summer. Works great in the primary, breaks down/sucks in the tranny. I repeat, pass on using it in the tranny.
