Default Baffles or Resonator

Hello all, I have a question in reference Rineharts slip-ons. For the fellas out- there can anyone tell me if they come with baffles or a resonator? I'm slightly concerned with back pressure. Fortunately, the new 09s come with a catalytic converter which helps out.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know about Rhineharts at all but your query did bring up the issue of what is a baffle? The term is used pretty loosely in the exhaust world. Some "baffles" are just inner tubes with different perforation configs and maybe some fiberglass wrapping. Others actually have what I think of as a true baffle with a cross mounted inner plate to interupt the flow and noise. I do believe Rhinehart sells different end caps for their mufflers. You'd best call them for the true scoop.

I'm not sure what your definition of a resonator is. On a car it's the muffler after the muffler (to me anyway). I'm really ignorant of the differences and I'm betting you must know more about the different configurations of the muffler vs. resonator. I'd be truly interested to see what you have to say.

Also, are you saying that the '09's have a seperate catalytic converter in front of the muffler? Just asking for my own information. Da mo you know da better.

We have our comparison to EPA in brussels too, and if those enviromental nazis get thru all they want all older cars and bikes will be banned, even banned to export them. Forbid gasoline as vehicle fuel and so on.

Completely crazy ideas. Bikes and catalytic don't fit together.
Weare going to bad, very bad times what behalf our so beloved bikes and real cars.

This Lissabon crap threats to do all european states to just provinces within EEC. So Our bikes are really threated from that side now.
They tries to cut our freedom from all sides now, our comparison to NSA had recently got rights to sniff all our internet traffic, and downloading is today not so advisable either as they passed that IPRED law, which gives the music and film company rights to claim IP-numbers of those who had downloaded and threat them with huge costs or seen in the court and such, we live in Orwille's 1984 these days.... We have as foul play at internet area as China, North Korea and other left wing dictatures.

So BB are you snowed in by now? Last week we had 20" (50cm ?) of snow on the ground then rain, and lots of it, now the roads are clear but still colder then a well diggers arse in Utah. I agree with you, too many goody two shoes and and enviro police out there. Gas engine powered vehicles will be a thing of those who want them in museums. I do believe 1984 is approaching.

Not yet, just some mm on the ground, but were frickin cold (-6,1 celsius) when I rode on my winter shot to the work yesterday. Yep, a offroad bike I got cheap. Swapped the muffler on that so it barks little better.

Rineharts use baffles. They're a little bit quiter than the original Rineharts but if that is an issue you can pull those and and put in their so-called performance baffles.

Dunno about Reinharts specifically, just a bit of general background on "baffles" for info:

Baffles, at least in motorcycle exhaust systems, come in two main varieties:
1. An in-line perforated tube with a wrapping around the outside and the gases free to pass straight up the inside (an "abosorbsion muffler"); these are generally more effective at attenuating higher frequencies.
2. A sudden change in cross-section and/or change in direction of the pipe through which the gases flow (e.g. the header pipe enters into a larger diameter can with the exit/s from the can deliberately NOT aligned with the entry); these are generally designed to knock out lower frequencies.

Note that if you take out loads of high frequecies (with just a big absorbsion muffler) you end up with a very deep sounding exhaust that maybe lacks that nice "crack" that wakes up dozy car drivers!

Hope that's useful ...
