I draw & paint pictures of motorcycles. I have also "created" a minature biker dollhouse with a fenced in yard, Harley garage, driveway, leather pouch mailbox etc. The whole house is "Harley" themed. Even our local newspaper has come by and put it in the newspaper. Is there anyway of displaying it in your magazine or showing it to the "Harley Davidson Co." itself? Has anyone else ever made one? This is not a toy. I've gotten several compliments on it. Sincerely, Kathy "Redwolf's woman"
Well, the times have shown that anything with an HD emblem on it will sell (if that's what you're thinking). But just remember, HD is now a monster conglomerate and using their name, symbol, or likeness is a violation of copyright and trademark laws. Local bars can't even have a "SuperBowl" party because they'll get sued - they call them "The Big Game" party. Harley has more lawyers than Exxon - so their next.
It would be worth the risk though if you could make a little SteveB and his FX...... I'd buy one.
bwaaaaah - please - a little SteveB?
Not a chance of that happening if it hasnt happened by now...LOL
but anyway - to address your question Kathy, I dont know if it is the type of item that our readers would be interested in learning about - but what is really important is that your happy with it and get great feedback and had fun making it.
Kathy -HD isn't going to sue anyone over fan art, as long it's not being sold as official HD merchandise or mass produced. If that were the case AIM and all the other HD oriented mags would be sued for copyright infringement and anything else their lawyers could come up with. Ever see a Harley tattoo with the circled "R" for registered trademark down in the corner? Same principle. It's good press, free promotion, free advertising and good public relations for them not to.
Now, if you found a way to make a power tool, kitchen appliance, or your pet sound like a V-twin HD might sue like they did when the metric bike makers started making HD clones. And they'd lose that one, too.
Doll houses with HD based themes are acceptable in as much as they, under no circumstance, feature the likeness of a one SteveB and said Shovel, nor DualCarb and said countless rustoration products as these likenesses tarnish the otherwise good reputation of our fine motor company. While we readily concede that we did in fact produce countless Shovelheads and PanHeads we do not wish to dwell upon this portion of our history at this point in time.May we suggest a likeness of a mortgage broker on a VRod? Or perhaps a chapped lawyer on a Screaming Eagle E-Glide? (please make sure that no reference to "Geezer-Glide" is posted anywhere on said "doll house" property as this would be considered liable). Thank you for your cooperation. In closing, you might meet a better class of folks at your local HOG meeting than in this............place.

Ha ha. I know Brice Van Housenhoffen, and you are no Brice.
I am actually surprised by the number of people on this forum who think this last post is legit. It's not.
Yeah, you got me, I'm no Brice...I don't have enough scratch to caddy for him on a Bavarian golf course. Son of the Porsche family and key to the design of the VRod, Brice has no concern for the production of Harley theme doll houses. Creating a Porsche Harley (VRod) that would be loved in the world at large and despised in America, Brice is now working behind the scenes at BMW Motorcycles and will soon produce a VTwin cruiser that will take America by storm. Adding skulls to a BMW isn't for the faint of heart - but know that you can't keep a good German down......just ask the descendants of the Kaiser......many of us are still standing in his lines for a prescription.
