I'm a firm believer that if a thief wants a bike bad enough no alarm is going to stop him.

I think it is effective up to a point. Like Ace says, a real hell-bent thief will get whatever they want. It probably protects against tampering if it has the siren installed. Most come without the siren and the turn signals blink, alerting no one. It disables the starter and the electronics module (I think).
The siren is extra from HD at about $90. And you can add a pager that will buzz your belt if the siren is alarm is tripped. I think it has limited range, though.
I put a Radio Shack siren on mine and it works. $6.95.
I use it all the time and I feel a little better. Who knows, maybe if you parked in a downtown area and the siren went off a policeman might get curious. It's just one more thing to defeat before they get away scot free.

I agree totally.

I've got the factory alarm on mine and LoJack. But I still make sure I can keep my eye on it when I park it.

At work we have a "secure" parking area so I don't worry too much.

I'm thinking of adding the siren and pager for some additional pom.

I installed the digital guard dawg(tm) system on my bike. It operates with a proximity sensor in the starter relay along with a programed key fob. There is nothing visual with it as far as blinking lights or anything but the relay will not engage the starter if I am not within 10 ft of the bike. I also use a disc lock when I'm out. But like others have said, if someone is determind enough I can probably kiss it good buy.

I have debated on adding the siren and pager. My chop had a scorpio alarm with pager. I figured the pager and the glock is a good step.
