Default Bad Gas (in the tank)

I thought I would start another thread instead of hijacking vinmara's thread about the bad idle on his 2006 classic.

I had mentioned that my 2006 Ultra, bone stock, runs bad every time I stop at a shell station. Gas Man mentioned that it could be the station itself and not the gas. I do use pemium, but when i have used regular, it runs the same! No difference.

Well, I took notice of this last year, and the first time the bike acted up I didnt know what it was and it passed. Next time it acted up it was directly after we stopped at a Shell station. a few weeks later, I went to a different shell across the state, and got the same results.... bad idle, had to keep reved up to keep running when stopped at a light. this last time was on the Laughllin run and we were somewhere on the east side of California and we stopped at a shell, I figured what the heck, I was just gonna be running freeway for the next 2 hours so I filled up. and sure enuff, when we pulled over to stretch about an hour later, and the bike wouldnt run right. That's why I blame shell gas stations... the bike ran fine with every station we went to on that trip. and we stopped at what ever was there including little mom and pop stations to chevron, union 76 etc... no problems.

I just dont remember going to a shell out of california, so maybe it is thier ''special blend'' here in california that dis-agrees with my bikes systems.

Before my ride today, I topped off the tank with Shell V-power. Had about 1/2 a tank of Citgo Premium in it already. The bike ran fine with no hiccups at all. I'll run this tank down and next time will try running it on shell alone. Is the fuel on your end of the country blended with alcohol perhaps?

Dunno about the alcohol, will hafta look next time.
I'm taking the BMC out tomorrow. Should be a blast.
It is the Harley Ultra fuel injected that runs bad on Shell.
The BMC has a 100" Revtech and is carburated with a Mikuni 45. It gets anywhere from 25 to 40 mpg, depending on how I ride.

I use shell 94 octane all the time.... no issues here!
Can't run my wifes sporty on anything under 92 octane, just starts running real bad.

I'm thinking it is California's "special" blend that makes the bike act up.

I will just hafta head outta state for a "test"

I think I want to try for that iron-butt award. so I will take a couple long runs this year and go for it next summer. So I can test the Shell Shock theory on one of my test runs.

Scott
I have used Shell Gas in My 04 Super Glide in Blythe Ca and Needles (Ouch it was expensive in Needles, almost $5.00 a gallon) but have had no noticeable effect. Next fill up I will run over to Blythe and check it out and see if how it does and update ya. Good luck!

A couple of years ago I saw a blurb in Enthusiast on a trip planner and they actually would give the locations of Shell stations on the route, kind of a MOCO endorsement of the brand. (The wife's 07 Focus has a sticker inside the gas door recommending BP......maybe big shots at the 2 MOCOS own stock in the two oil companies.lol (;
