The bike is a real "survivor" and, IMHO, would be better off staying unrestored. I was a big car guy, specifically 67-69 Camaros and I've owned and bought and sold several and seen and particpated in the restoration of quite a few. But the ones that really were the most interesting were the survivors. Especially if they were rare like pace cars or big block ss. Same for the bikes. The more original, the better.

I know it's not a bike, but watching Antiques Roadshows a while back, someone had re-finished a piece of furniture and took it in to be appraised... they had dropped the value by several thousand dollars by messing with the original finish. This could be true with bikes too.
Thats why when I got my shovel, I first researched it to find out how close to 'stock' it was before I decided what to do with it. If it was close I would have restored it, but since it was not... I am going wild with it...
So I too feel that this survivor bike is better off as-is. Go ahead and ride it, but to re-paint and re-chrome that indian would be a shame. Just my opinion.....
