I'm always scrounging around on the internet for interesting bike deals. Mostly the last two years. I bought my 2003 FLHT back in Nov for 10K with 27,000 miles. Only adds were V&H true duals, S&S carb and it had a stereo. I think it was a pretty decent deal. Lately though, I've noticed that used HD prices have really started to decline dramatically and most certainly due to the economic conditions. Yesterday I found a 2001 Super Glide w/26,000 miles for 5,500. Five to six year old Sportys are going all day for 3,500 to 4,000. The economy here in the Greater Houston area has probably not been as severe as other areas of the country.
I guess my question is, has anyone else seen prices drop as much as I've seen here? Just curious as to what other areas in the country are doing.
Mr. Big; When I was looking for my bagger, I too scrounged all the H.D. for sale sites I could find. I got my '07 E.G. Classic with 4k miles two seats etc. in May for $13.5 from a distressed small business owner. Since then, I keep tabs on "completed" listings on Ebay and have seen quite a price drop on all years and models, with many going unsold. From what I read on other forums, H.D. dealers are still not making much in the way of deals, even with brand new '08's on the floor next to '10's. It took me a while to find just the bike I wanted, and someone else took the beating for me.
When I spoke with the owner (NewRoc advertises in American Iron Magazine) he explained to me that if he is going to sell the used Harleys at wholesale, he'd rather sell them locally to customers and nieghbors. He rolled them all outside his shop this past weekend with the NADA wholesale page printed out and attached to the handlebars with the NADA wholesale price where everyone can see.
Not sure how many used Harleys are left in his dealership, but might be worth checking out.

samething happened in avon, ohio this weekend @ lake erie harley. Friday & saturday they were trying to make deals on trade in bikes to customers b4 they went to auction on sunday. I see all kind of good deals on craigslist also. Even on old spirits and 250 harleys.
Ditto what everyone's said about the price drop on bikes, I like to see what they're going for and sometimes it makes me sick. I'm happy with the deal I got, but when you see a better deal I guess you can't help but say"oh crap". Good for some and bad for others, ya gotta know times are tuff when you gotta sell your harley!!!

That's a very nice deal. They are certainly out there if you're willing to be patient. Saw a 96 Heritage today with 17K miles for 8600 bucks. Two years ago, any piece of junk with HD on it they wanted 10K for. Dealers are never in the mix when it comes to deals. Most dealer used bikes I've seen, they want almost as much as a new one. I think Craigslist is the best source. Ebay is a mixed bag. Most are priced with a reserve or a starting price that's more than it's worth to cover the fees.
Used bike prices have certainly dropped in my area. Good market for the buyer, tough times for the seller. I'm going to look at an '05 Super Glide I saw on Craig's list tomorrow night. It had been on there for two weeks for $7800.00 and the ad dropped. Reappeared a couple of days later at $7200.00. Nice thing about Craig's list is most of the stuff posted is relatively local.
I saw a 1970s Cone Shovelhead Harley yesterday. Looked complete with minor custom work.
Has been sitting for at least 5 years and the gas tanks smell like kerosene. Tires are flat and no battery, but the negine kicks over with good compression and no weird noises.
Seller wants $3,500 and I think I might buy it as a "buy & fix cheap" Harley project for American Iron Magazine.
