Make sure that you DO NOT spray the brake discs. Other than that - lather it on. I spray it and polish it on. Wheel rims especially love it.

Silicone, WD40 or pig spit, I even spray it on my brakes.
When I ride it I just drag the brakes one at a time until I feel them start to grab then you are good to go. Usually about two or three hundred feet or so.
Before my first big stop I make sure they are good, if not give them a good warm up, to burn off any left, and have never had any problems.
Brake rotor temperatures are way hotter than the burning off temperatures of silicone and oil.

i washed my bike for the first time in two years last week.......still had chrome under the grit. I think it was the road grit that kept it fresh ??

I have used the Damp Rid in a similar application. Keeping them full of crystals and emptying the water became a hassle. So I changed to a rod much like what Gas Man posted the link to. I am cautious so I attached the supplied rod holders to blocks and I am going to have a shallow tin tray made to sit the rod in to. I don't what the rod to come in to contact with anything combustible.
