Ace, you have more degrees than a thermometer so finding good work will be but a phone call away.. MC mechanics work up here all year long, but we'd have to call you Eh'sharleywrench. Besides we had snow for all but 4 months this summer.
Good luck to you and sad to hear about the shop.

Definietly interview them as well as they interview you!
Hate to see a bad move, but then again, a move to Florida, for a biker, can be a real good thing. Keep your eyes and ears open. Pay attention to the area.

Thanks to everyone for the support & words of encouragement.I have multiple feelers out now,Tampa was the first to get back to me.I'm definitely leaning towards a warm climate, shoveling snow has lost its luster somehow, not to mention old injuries that remind me they are there when the weather changes.

Ace, if you do end up in Tampa, I will make sure you do any of my work. FYI, there are basically two dealerships in the area owned by the same folks. The one is in Tampa up the road from Raymond James Stadium and the other one is about 15 miles east out in Brandon, it's called "OLD TOWN H-D", it's one of the new super-sized shops( closer for me 0) Best of luck to you and I hope something happens soon for you. As you probably know, riding is a 353 day a year possibility down here

Hey Ace,

I made the move in 1986 from Va. Fla has problems but being able to ride all year solves most of them.
I may or may not reopen my shop in Orlando. When things get tight I can always find work in Daytona. I have no HD certs. I do have certs in Norton/Ducati and BSA/Triumph that are old enough to be collectors items. When I work for an HD dealer they give the old guy the old stuff to do.
The Fla economy is not in good shape but there are plenty of retired bikers to keep you busy. You are versatile and right now that is the key. Things are different here but you adjust. Christmas shopping in shorts isn`t that hard. There are days when it is too hot to ride but you learn to leave early.

Come on down !

If Florida doesnt' work out, the greater Houston area might be an option. Big city with a strong economy, (although we've been biten like everyone else), and 6 HD dealerships. Several reputable small shops, too. If you want some info, let me know.

Man, I'm excited about the possibilities, and it's not even me! (Sure wish it was.) You'll do just fine, ace... best of luck to you. Sarge does have a good point about the hurricanes...

Well, that didn't last long,I tentatively agreed to work in an indy shop starting next week. It's seventeen miles away & has been in business for twenty years & has a loyal customer base.I was hesitant until the owner & I had a chance to talk face to face(2 hour conversation) there's very few people I've ever really wanted to work for but this guy is sharp & personable,I think it will be a good fit.If it doesn't work out Florida will still be there in the spring. Thanks to all the forum members who supported me,you guys are the best!!!Anything anybody needs,I'm here for ya.

Good for you Ace. I have a job but no work, do you need an apprentice?
I don't like shovelling snow either
