Default To trade or not to trade? Opinions wanted.

Current ride is a 2002 Lowrider. Rejetted, pipes, K&N air filter. 22,000 trouble free miles on it.
Considering a trade for a Roadglide or Roadking.
Have ridden both models; but not 2007's. Both are 100lbs plus heavier than the Lowrider; and while I don't expect the same performance from the King or the Glide; I am curious as to what to expect in the way of MPG, acceleration, low speed handling etc.; and would like some input from people that have experience with these models.
Most of my riding is highway; relatively short trips of 75 miles or so, with a fair amount of time riding in small towns.
Any info and opinions would be a big help.

JMK,

Do what I did. Keep them both. I have a 1991 Dynaglide Sturgis, S&S, drag pipes, Dyna ignition, EV3 cam, etc. 45,00mi. runs strong and trouble free. Took the plunge and bought a new '05 Road King. I dont know if its because I am so used to my 91 but to me the Road King is not as agile, fast, even with the 88TC Engine and IMHO doesnt handle as well through the twisties. Obviously it is a bigger heavier bike. I felt some rear wheel sloppiness too. All these observations made were under full load with alot of equipment on bike. On the highway there is nothing like it. Smooth and comfortable. Small town riding and bar hopping I'll take the Sturgis anyday. Just my opinion. My intitial plan was to sell the Sturgis but I just cant do it. Keeping them both. Botz

Hell no! Dont trade it in. Depending on how much new bike you purchase dealer may give you between 6,500 and 9,000. If you have connections at the place you may get a tad more. If you need to unload it sell it yourself. Expect between 10,000 and 13,000 depending on bikes condition. Motorcycle craze has slowed. Market flooded with used bikes from those that watched to much TV. Got scared when they hit the road. Got rid of em with low miles.

Your Dyna is more agile and quicker. The King is for long distance cruising. Its a nice bike. But heck if you have the means have your cake and eat it too.

Ditto, keep it! I'm planning on purchasing a touring bike within the next year and a half if finances allow but i will never get rid of my superglide. I've been on some long rides with it but the problem is i can't carry everything that the wife wants to take along. The only thing i'll consider doing to it is exhaust, air cleaner and stage one download{if the epa still allows it by then}. To me this bike will for touring not hot rodding that's what my glide is for. My glide is pretty quick now but just wait until i get a new bike and i can put it up and do what i really want to do to it!

I say keep it! If its paid for it doesn't eat much.
I kept my sporty after I purchased my fatboy and have not regretted it at all.
When ever I get the urge to butcher up a bike its the one that goes under the knife. That way the fatboy can stay reliable for those long hauls.

Thanks to everyone for sharing advice/opinions. Between that and taking a ride on a friends 07 King; I've pretty much decided to hang on to the 02 Lowrider; and maybe look at adding a second bike sometime down the road.
Didn't care much for the King .....for a 96" it doesn't seem to make any more power than an 88" I rode a short time ago.
They are comfortable though.

Come on guys, when it comes to power of TC88 vs TC96 read about it in American Iron Magazine. They put out pretty close to the same horsepower at the rear wheel. So if one bike is heavier (Road King) than another (Dyna Glide) guess what you'll feel on hard throttle?

Buzz, I think the majority of us know about power to weight ratios but i believe that's not what is being discussed here. What is being discussed here is the fact that we now have what is basically a stroked 88{96 cu.in.}and there's nothing to show for it! Harley blew it! I mean, what incentive is there for someone to trade up to the 96 incher! None except for a couple of improvments that Donny mentioned in his tech article. I believe that 07 will be another good year for the consumer because i'm willing to bet that there will be plenty of 07 leftovers. So if anyone is looking into buying a new bike{like i am in the near future}wait, the dealers will come to us. It's about time!
