First the transmission. When I got it all together, the battery was dead when I got back from Milwaukee.
Got a new battery installed. I rode one day.
The next morning I went out to go to work and the rear tire was flat. A screw was poking out of the tire. I have two new tires in my office I was going to install any day before the flat.
I sat there looking at that flat and thought, with those spokes and tubes, what would I have done if I had been on some desolate two-lane road between here and some of the places I've been in the last three years.
I bit the bullet and ordered some mags from Zanotti's at their 20% discount. When I get them in I'll put the bearings in and put the new tires on and then change out the entire wheels, tires and all. Then I'll buy a plug kit and a portable air compressor. That should take care of unexpected flats.

That way you'll be prepared but never have a flat again your entire life.
Whatever it takes, eh?
I should be so lucky. I hope I never have a flat for the rest of my life. I hate to think what could have happened on my way to and from North Carolina last year riding all that way in one day both ways. I was in some pretty desolate areas after dealer hours. Hopefully the mags will be the rainsuit that makes it never rain.

I think spokes look great, but at my age they are too much trouble, cleaning and making sure they are tight'n true, plus the flat disadvantage. I have a complete repair kit like Gas Mans plus a can of fix a flat. I carry it all in a fork bag mounted to my downtubes just above the v reg. It's hardly noticeable. I have never needed it, but have plugged several tires for others. The can of fix a flat is for someone that has a slow leak, not my tire.

That reminds me of my 79 Low Rider I used to have. I broke two primary belts in one summer. Bought a spare and carried it in my saddle bags.........never needed it. Must have been a magic cure?
a while back i got stranded in oceanside 75 miles from home with a charging system problem mmmm..... i will by a charging system....stator,reg., rotor,...put in leather side bags, never have problem again!

Reason: misspelling
It probably was a magic cure but how much emergency stuff can we carry just to make sure nothing happens?
Ya could get carried away with it but the tire kit Gas Man has could be useful since your tires are always on the road ready to pick up a nail or something sharp.
