LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- "Monster Garage" reality show host Jesse James has agreed to pay $271,250 for violating California's air quality laws by selling motorcycles that did not meet the state's strict emissions standards, authorities said.
His Long Beach motorcycle building shop, West Coast Choppers, sold more than 50 new or custom-built motorcycles between 1998 and 2005 that were not certified by the Air Resources Board, the agency said in a statement Friday.
Attempts to reach James for comment Friday were unsuccessful. An employee who answered the phone at West Coast Choppers said the company would have no comment.
As part of a settlement, the shop is building motorcycles that comply with emission standards, the board said.
Gotta wonder if this is a high profile message to custom builders eveyrwhere or Jesse just got caught and it made the news. American Iron Magazine ran a series of articles on this very issue a year or so ago. Guess Jesse didn't read it.
This is only going to get worse. The largest common denominator are things like tractor trailers, farm equipment and two-stroke lawn mowers and equipment, but they want to go for what they see as a weak spot.
Sad thing is, they're almost right. This news is old and still there is no major push that I can tell. I see a blurb here and there in bike mags, maybe a whole article, but never any news that all the forces in the bike world are joining up for any major push. Even the site that gives "all the EPA news for bikers" sucks. What news?
Same here..., our politicians here are going to change the insurance policy so to example bikes insurance will rise some 200% something at least plus a $100 annual fee in extra tax for registred vechicles, what ever it is a moped or a superfast Gixxer or a ´busa or an harley. We pay $6,75 per gallon here for our gas for the lowest octane, 95, and put then on these insane insurance costs, as a fast ´busa to example can blow the $10.000 in insurande annual a year. We have effect regulations which says that a 16 years old rider can´t ride bikes with more than 125 cc and 10-11 Kw = approx 14 hp, then he or she will be 18 he or she has to get av test for a new drivers license for bigger bikes, and here we have two classes, restricted and unrestricted bikes in which all Harleys except the smallest will belong, in the same class as Big Gixxers, hayabusa´s, many-letter kawas and so on. restricted bikes are not allowed to have more than 25 Kw or no lower than 0,16 kw per kilogram bike. 1x1,36=1 hp.
So guys, no you know what will awaits you if wrong guys will get the steering wheel in white house.
So Majicbringer, they are after us here too..... Don´t even think they´re not.... A politician said straight out that she wanted all "dangerous traffic participants" off the road, and she said we bikers were in the main target. so guys, the scene is bad here.
Yup, absolutely correct... If the wrong guys--Democrates- get the steering wheel in the White House, WE will ALSO be paying unbelievable gas prices cuz the Liberals won't allow more exploration and development of domestic energy, i.e. oil drilling..
They will pick on and target, as THEY traditionally do, the smallest and politcally weakest... Mark my words--- the first thing they will do is force MANDATORY helmet laws, and any other restrictive MOTORCYCLE/AUTOMOTIVE laws they want...
NOT to mention raising taxes, destroying the 2nd amendment, increasing affirmative action, gutting our National Defense while giving in to WORLD poitics and the UN,, and re-enforcing the totally left-wing eminent domain ruling handed down by the Liberals on the Supreme court, making it lawful to take your property and give it to another private party that will pay more/higher taxes, even mandating what light-bulbs you will be allowed to purchase as a liberal Kaliforgnian politition is now trying to do...
Your free American way of life will be destroyed...
Oh Puhleeeze....politicians are politicians; they're all Republicrat and not particularly concerned about anyone's interests except their own...kind of like us.
Political arguments are the biggest waste of time I can think of...let's not start them here....
