| | It's offical Harley lost the bid for the CHP contract. They put a 103 motor in the bike in order to obtain the required 110 mph and the high speed wobble was very evident. Also the Harley ABS system failed miserably. So.....the CHP will continue to be riding BMW's.
I guess its back to the drawing board for the boys in Milwalkee?

| | Don't laugh Majic - Cycle Visions already created a kit for it using Road Glide hardware and it looks great. Does make you wonder if they should have tried that....

| | Actually, I have seen some VROD baggers that were pretty sharp and would blow the fender off the Beemers and the others I've seen being used. I can just imagine a CHP officer with a bike that has power all the way to 9000rpm. Maybe a SE VROD? Dayyum!

| | I believe there is a certain criteria the bike has to meet before they are even allowed to be tested for motor service.
Why would Harley enter a bike that had a wobble at high speeds and a brake system that is yet to be proven ?
Maybe they were just a little too anxious to regain the contract?
I believe the bike Harley had tested just is not safe for the work intended.

| | I said this months ago in a previous post when they were going for the contract. HD should have redesigned the FLT frame and added water-cooling if they expected to compete with BMW. Even then they would have been outgunned because BMW has already designed a new police model that is faster and handles better than the previous models - out this fall. HD redesigned the Dyna frame and I have one. The 06 FXDWG frame has no sway or high speed wobble. I've had my WG at 120 and it's stable. My old Dyna got sketchy at that speed. They have the technology to do it and they dropped the ball.

| | In one breath, they're putting lipstick on a pig. Air cooled HD's really don't belong in the high speed pursuit arena. But at the same time, there's just something so right about an HD police bike. It's an American tradition. BMW's just don't look right as in the parades or as escort bikes.

| | Now the latest rumor is that HD did get the contract after some kind of a bribery scandel was discovered with the person in charge.
Goddam politicians always gotta have some kind of bulls@*t going on.
