Default Which would you rather buy / ride and why?

I need some advice. I am new to the bike world, but am willing and ready to jump in head first.

Recently, I have come across some bikes that I am just not sure about. So, if you wouldn't mind maybe you could give me some valuable insight into them or what to look for or what I should expect to repair down the road, etc.

Me: 6'2" 225# & I will be riding the bike solo, because my wife will be getting her own bike.

The bikes:

HD 94' FXLR

HD 88' FXR
http://adcache.cycletrader.com/5/5/0/86761350.htm

HD 05' XL1200C
http://www.cycletrader.com/caddetail...2/88034472.htm

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Bob

See how the fit of the XL 2100C feels for you, but you are just about too tall to get comfortable on long rides. Concerning the 88 FXR, some had porous crankcase castings, so look it over carefully. The 94 FXLR could be a good choice. If you aren't mechanically inclined, take along someone who is.

Cool. Thanks. I have one other quick question.

If HD began producing the Dyna line back in 90'-91' then why is the 94' labeled as a FXLR rather than a FXDL? Just trying to get all my ducks in a row. Thanks again.

Opps...I forgot two other questions. Sorry.

What kind of horsepower/torque did the stock Evo 1340cc engines produce? Also, with all the known mods what kind of horsepower/torque can I expect to get out of the Evo 1340cc engines? I know the stock TC88s produce about 68 horsepower/85lbs torque, if I correctly recall. I am just trying to get a good idea of what to expect when I go and check these bikes out. Thanks again.

The FXLR is otherwise known as a Low Rider. Slightly more raked out front fork, lower seat and more chrome than on the Dyna Superglide. You can expect 60- 62 HP, 70-75 FT Lb. Torque is the deal with Harley.

Shovelmike,
Do you think the FXLR (Low Rider) is the better choice? Thanks.

Given the fact that the Low Rider is newer, and I know of no weak points in the 94's it is probably the better deal. The Low Rider has chrome primary cover, rocker boxes, cam cover etc. which would add up to a lot of trouble and expense to add to the plainer finished FXR. As I recommended, try to take along a mechanically inclined person, preferably with motorcycle experience, or work out an agreement where you can let a professional mechanic assess the bike before closing the deal. I want your first experiences in this great sport to be good ones. Good luck, ride safe, and God bless

Looked at the lowrider add... not bad, I think I'd shop around. Dude I work with just bought a '99 fatboy for 8 grand, loaded w/chrome, and less miles. The less miles thing could be good or bad. In my opinion, the early to mid '90s hds are the best ever built. Not the coolest, for sure. This would be a nice bike. No modifications are mentioned, and I wonder, cuz we can't leave bikes alone. If totally stock, I'd be surprised if this bike broke 55 hp. Shovelmike is right, torque is the deal. Is this your very first bike?

No offense meant 94, but the 90-94 Big Twin cases are known for cracking around the tappet block and 12o'clock position case bolt holes. God forbid if anyone tries to big bore those years.
A few may get lucky but the majority fatigue and crack even when left stock.
I just helped a friend replace his cracked cases with S&S ones and, asking around, we found out that this unfortunate problem is all too common.
Other than that little detail they are very good all around.
