Default Anyone else find this disturbing?

On another message board, there was a question about GPS use on motorcycles. I started researching the topic, and thought, do we really need more gadgets for riders to play with when they should be concentrating on the road?

Then, in todays mail, I received a catalog from a major motorcycle headset / radio manufacturer. There are now bluetooth setups for cell phones on motorcycles!!

I deal with drivers on their cell phones everyday while commuting to work. Do we really need people on motorcycles using them while riding? What or who is so important that the conversation can't wait until they pull over?

Maybe i'm just getting old, but you can't make this stuff up !!!!

Please, ride safe

Yeah, that bugs me too. People sure don't need to be yakking on the phone while riding. When I'm riding, I don't want to be bothered. Sounds like a real good reason to continue not to ride in large groups. Ride safe and God bless

BBJ.... I agree with ya 100% about the bluetooth phone setup for bikes. No need to be talking to anyone on the phone while riding. As far as the GPS goes, although it is a gadget, it is useful. I've been riding for 25 years and NEVER had anything other than the roar of the pipes and the scenery to keep me going. Unfortunately time has been cruel and I cant read the F***ing maps anymore even with my damn glasses on. I received a bike GPS as a gift and I tell ya it is a pain in the a*s BUT once its figured out you only have to hit one button and then never mess with it 'til you reach your location. I have to say the best features on this thing are the MP3 music player(I've never listened to tunes while riding before but why not try it) and the "FIND" button which can find a gin mill in the middle of the desert. That option alone is worth the price! To be honest I am going to use it on my 10,000 mile cross the country and back trip. This will be the test. I may smash it if it gets in the way. LOL. My GPS has the Bluetooth thing on it but I aint using that. Already been disabled. That Bluetooth crap aint gonna work at 70MPH anyway. Seems useless to me. Later.

IMHO, If you are yapping on the phone while riding, you are riding the road to disaster.
I have always thought of cell phones as an electronic leash.
I only like them when I am stuck on the side of the road and don't have the ability to fix the problem.

A recent Myth-Busters episode pretty much proved that a person driving while yapping is just as deadly as a drunk driver.

I carry my cell phone with me while riding, but it goes in the tour pak. If I need it, I have it. I ride to get away and never much liked talking on a phone. Age is getting to me as well and reading maps is more difficult but I'm not ready for a GPS. I keep my eyes on the road, premap out where I'm going and even though I hate stopping and asking for directions I will do that. Ride safe and enjoy the upcoming season folks!

I guess GPS has its place. I don't have one. Here in rural Missouri, I head down backroads to see where I end up. I have found some of the prettiest roads by getting lost.

We'll know we've hit the wall when we see women putting on their make-up in the side mirror while riding...

Jesus Fing Christ, The last thing I want is to be bothered by a phone call or for somebody to pinpiont where I am.Hell I can hardly stand it if the ol lady starts talking too much! The only sound I want to hear is the exhaust note. Riding is stress relief, a sense of being almost carefree, no schedule, no destination other than an idea of where I'll end up that day. True adventure and Freedom.
