I sat closer to the windshield on both of them. That is the main difference that I can see. Also, my wife (passenger) gets al lot more air than previously. I sure like this model, but the air is worse than no shield/fairing.

I have tried the taller windshields as well I had a 14inch clearview recurve that pushed the wind about 1-2 inches over my head but my wife still got hit and had helmet buffeting. I had a 16 inch straight National and that worked ok for me and the wife didn't complain but i had to look thru about 1 inch at the top and thats annoying especially in the rain.

WINDVEST has a 12 and 14 inch recurve that they claim pushes the wind 4-6 inches above the rider. i tried the the 12 and it worked great for me but still gave my wife some helmet buffeting. When i got to Sturgis and visited the WINDVEST booth he had just came out with the 14 inch. He was great and swapped it out for a minimal charge since my 12 inch was used but in like new condition. This one got rid of even more air around my face and hands plus my wife said the helmet buffeting was gone and i can still see over the top about 2 inches.

check out the web site or give Doug the owner a call. He is a great guy to deal with. Tell him the guy with the orange vrod from Sturgis sent you.

Good Luck. I have about $500.00 tied up in windshields and this one does the trick and i wont be looking for another one now.

Since my last post I purchased a Clearview recurve 14". This has got to be one of the best aftermarket parts I have put on the Road Glide. The ride stability has not suffered and the wind now passes about 1 to 2 inches over my head. Haven't had the wife on behind me so I can't tell you if that part is better or not, but for me this windshield is the last on I'll buy.

So is the Windvest recurve the same as Clearview recurve?

I have tried both. The Clearview has a little less recurve than the Windvest.

Clearview claims 1-2 inch over a straight one. I had a 16 inch Straight National and it was ok for me but i looked thru the top and don't like that. I bought a 14 recurve Clearview and it gave me a little lift under my helmet visor and still didn't help my wife.

I met the Windvest owner Doug at the V-Twin Expo earlier this year and he was just coming out with the 12 recurve for the road Glide and he claimed 4-6 inch push over the top. I bought the 12 and it worked great for me but my wife still complained of a little helmet buffeting. When I was in Sturgis he had just came out with a 14 recurve and claimed the same 4-6 inch push.

He swapped it out for a minimal exchange and this really did the trick. I actually get very little wind turbulence and my wife now says she gets no helmet buffeting. The other benefit is i am short at 5.7 and can still see over the top by about 2 inches.

checkout his website. I have the dark smoked on mine and love it.

I now have purchased three aftermarket shields for my bike. I am getting tired of forking out money and being disappointed. They all say their shields make the wind flow better.
I disagree. I have spent around $600 and am not any further ahead. I still get a lot of wind trying to shake my sunglasses off and my helmet tries to dislodge itself. I think higher is better and then I will have to put up with looking through it. The optional high shield from Harley may be the one that best protects me from the wind. The problem is paying to test it out. I have not tried to get any satisfaction from the aftermarket companies yet.

I agree redbeard. I have close to $600.00 myself tied up in several used EBAY specials and new aftermarket shields.

Like i mentioned in my above posts the Windvest 14 recurve has done the trick for me and my wife.

Man, I feel you guys pain on this one. Bought a Klockwerks 6.5 smoke for my 03 Glide and really like the look but it's just too short. Took my stock shield and cut it down to about 10.5" and it's just right but looks kinda.....stock. Klockwerks now has a 10.5 but I can tell it's too tall for me. Wish they made an 8.5. I feel like Goldilocks on this search......

The last one I purchased was the windvest recurve. Didn't work for me. I am putting the v-stream back on.

My bud has a guy local to me that will make shields for about $35-$50 each. Direct bolt ons. I can get his info for you if you would like.
