I'm looking at a 2001 Road King with 13,000 miles. Two problems. I've ridden it and the front brake lever will pull all the way to the bars unless you "pump" it, kinda like a car that needs it's brakes bled. Also, the bike runs fine except the right side exhaust is very dis colored at the back, like in this pic....................he wants $12,000 for it. Thoughts of what's wrong?
Pipe discolor- Cheap(er) mufflers, they can be cleaned up. If you wanna know what's going on in the jugs, pull the plugs, take pictures of their business ends, post'em here.
Brake lever- As long as there are no leaks from the master cylinder, it is a common problem. Diligent bleeding will bring the master cylinder back up to snuff.

Unless you have a sizable lien against the Superglide the dealer is getting it very cheap. You didn't say whether the Road King was EFI or carb, if EFI it's the cruder Magnetti Marreli as opposed to the Delphi which was used starting in 02.

Please join me in this prayer daily.
This is my Granddaughter Sky, age 7. Can't walk, talk, or feed herself but look at that smile. Anyone care to complain about their lot in life? Not me!
Jack the bike up so the front wheel is off the ground, put a dial indicator on the brake disc & rotate the wheel,I'll buy the first round if the runout is anywhere near specs. It's amazing to me how many people have brought their bikes to me with the brake lever that goes all the way to the grip & either the dealer or another shop can't figure it out.The 2000 & up rotors are very prone to bending or warping (especially during tire changes) & the resulting warp will push the pads back into the caliper while it's rotating.Thats why it will "pump up" normally at a stand still.Ooops, just gave away a money making secret,oh well.

Yea, I thought that was pretty low trade-in for my SuperGlide. It is fuel injected, btw. Not sure what to do. I like the bike.
Why do you wanna trade-in your 2007 & 4K for a 2001 that has possible issues..
I bet there are waaaay better deals to be found..
Heck, my neigbhor has a 2000 95" RoadGlide,,,, I think it is,, is that the top of the line model,,, with lotsa goodies, 23,000 miles, Zero issues, for 12,000 bucks and of course he's negotiable...
Came back to edit---------- it is a 95" 2000 UltraClassic----- Not roadglide..

I'd follow Frisco's advice and look around. There are some really good deals to be had and you're giving up a pretty new bike for one that has some age on it. Low miles on it though...
