Default Taller bars

First off let me say hello and that I am jsut getting into the "bagger" scene. So here is my first question. I did search but did not come up with what I was looking for.

I am looking at getting a 2000 Harley FLHTP (?) for 8665.00 but I like the taller bars. Now before you think I am going to put 24" apes on this your wrong. I want to put 8" apes on it and I already have a set but I am woundering if I need a certain kind or if any old set will work. Thanks for your help -oldschoolsolder

Hey Old

Most likely the correct bars for that sickle will have 2.5" long Dimples pressed in the under front-side of the bar about 6" in from each Handle area..
The Dimples are for wiring from the handlebar controls..
There would also be holes, 1/8" approx, drilled down the length of each up-right part of the bars for wiring holding clamps to push into..
And of course the center section of the bars must be long enough to fit between the risers but that's almost a given, very few specialty bars are too short there.. And I suppose the bars you wanna use are 1" OD..

Even though Nothing is impossible to Modify to fit almost anything I suspect that it would be best to have that kinda bars..
The "other" older kinda bars have no holes or dimples..
Guys that run simpler sickles like me can adapt either kind..

Your other Possibly bigger prob could be wire and cable length..
You'll have to determine if the existing wires and cables will work with the bars you hope to change to,,, if not,, you'll have to change them too..

Have a ball

The only thing frisco failed to mention was the bars contacting the inner fairing.Standard bars will have to be tilted back to avoid contact with the inner fairing, not a big deal as long as it's comfortable to you.If they are not positioned where you would like them several companies produce "bagger apes" with a bend about four inches up the rise (Cycle Smiths makes a nice example) this allows you to have the bars rotated forward with no interference with the inner fairing.

Thanks for the help guys I appericate it. I don't know if this could be part of the problem but it has a solo seat on it. To me it felt like I was sitting higher on the bike. Any thoughts on this?

If you have the original police solo (with a rubber bladder underneath it) then you can definitely make it more comfortable by installing a frame mount seat. You have a multitude of options (H-D,Corbin,Mustang,LePera,etc...)this will also help if you're "inseam challenged"
