Default rotor covers

My 1996 FLHT has the "classic" rotor covers on the front end, of which im not a big fan, but they do have the illuminated axle nut covers on the bottom of the legs, which i do like. is it possible to seperate these two items? can i take a cut off wheel and free the rotor cover, while keeping the axle covers or do i have to loose both?

You could probably cut the two apart. I don't think I would have the skill and finesse to make it look decent but some people amaze me with their craftiness. The next problem to solve would be how to protect the cut edge from rust since it would be bare steel.

They may be plastic for all I know, I haven't examined any up close. They are not my cup of tea. Let me know how it works out.
