Default Kick start for a road king

I have some questions for the experts.

I have an 09 Road King Classic and would like to add a kickstart.

1. Have any of you installed one on a newer bike
2. What company should I go with
3. Will it clear the passenger footboards

Here is a link to a shop that carries the kit I am looking for, but they are closed up.

Kick Start Kits And Kicker Parts For Harley Davidson

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, Blacksheep1. I haven't tried any of the kickstarter kits so I'm of little help there. I would caution you that the newer bikes have a delay built into the ignition system that requires the engine to make a complete revolution before it will fire a plug (to minimize the chance of kickback and the resulting starter damage). Wouldn't want you to go to the trouble and expense just to find that it won't work. If some one markets a defeat device to get around that you'd be OK. Ride safe and God bless, Sincerely: Shovelmike.

Thanks for the warm welcome Shovelmike.

I'm sure there are going to be other things like the delay I havn't thought about. I will say my 09 doesn't make a full turn before it's running(doesn't seem like it ), but this kickstart would complete the look of my RKC more than anything.

If it worked good enough I'd probably kick it everytime.

Welcome to the Harley forum family. I am curious why you would want to add a kickstarter to your modern bike? Not making a judgment call here, just curious.

I grew up around my dad's 59 pan, red and white.........my dream bike.

During the wonderfull 80's farming took a **** and the harley got sold to my uncle, (for $800) who still has it. I could have ran out and bought another 59 pan but it wouldn't be the same.

Fast forward to 2009, family an 8 year old girl, town job and resto work at home. I don't have time to take care of a 59 the way it deserves.

I'm not setting out to make a clone so don't get me wrong here. I want to add a few features that were on the 59 to my turquoise and white road king.
Right or wrong I don't see a problem with making my bike "look" old, I've already heard "nice restoration" from a few people and I politely tell them it's new.

I'm all about living life and having a ball riding with my wife and little girl(a sidecar might be in our future)

I hope I can add something to the forum.
Thanks, Brian.

Check out J&P Cycles for the kick starter. They have one for my 1995 Heritage. Your stock exhaust might cause a problem with the kicker arm. The MoCo should have kept the kicker as an option on their machines for a number of reasons. Cost is probably the main reason they dropped it for good. In my opinion it does not look like a Harley until it has a working kicker.

I had kick starts for years. I'm glad they're gone.

I like to have the option... thats why I am looking for, and may have found, an older shovel with both kick and electric.

Your bike sounds cool, can you post a picture of it here???
