Doggonnit GasMan, you have a neat, well organized shop...something I have been trying to achieve for a while....
Anyhow, nice job on making the Ultra Tour Pack detachable! That's an idea I have considered but had not seen done yet, I guess I'll leave mine as is though. I really am not crazy about the looks of the bike with the Tour Pack yet I use the thing every day...it is just so very handy.
Does it lock with a key onto the bike so that it's secure from theft? It's really a shame that's a consideration.....too many people were not raised as we were.

So how did you do that conversion?

Sweet looking with AND without the tourpak.

The shop was actually dirty there. My B.I.L. was using my garage as a wood working shop. You can see his home made router table in one of those pics in front of the bike. Allot of my buds harrass me about my crazy OCD neatness of my garage but yet they all want to work on their bikes in it. The ones that frequent it more often are too the point where THEY even know where most the tools are. Nothing fancy though besides the lift. Most the common stuff on the wall you can see. No big expensive tool boxes or nothing, but it works and works well for me.

Thanks on the bike compliments. I like it so much better. I like the no tourpack street glide look but want the lower fairings, spot lights, and better rear suspension. Plus when you want a tourpack, the aftermarket HD ones still aren't as nice as a stock ultra pack with the speakers and tail lights. So the Ultra for only $2k more plus the $600 (yes that is not a typo) detach kit, I have what I think is the best of both worlds. Further, with this kit it gives me the 4 pt docking which allows you to click in all the back rests/sissy bars and luggauge racks.

As far as the lock. You have to order that seperate. Yes seperate above the $600 kit. BEEP ME! Luckily its only $34 for one lock and $60 for two (which I later found out is for a second docked piece like a sissy bar not 2 locks for the one unit). But yeah you are right. Its a shame but I'm a security nazi of sorts.

It is a kit you can buy from HD. The single part number now is actually like 4 different kits in one. Which at the end of the day just makes it worse. I ended up throwing the instructions aside and doing it just by looks. Go to this instruction then this one then this one, then back to the first then over to the third... BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Not too bad either way.

Pull the tourpack

Install the new lisence plate relocation kit and new fender strut covers, antenae relocations, and such

Here's the new "pad" for the tourpack

Then the tourpack back on or off as shown before. There is also a bunch of co-axe cable, speaker wire, tail light wires that get extended and coverted. There ends up being the new wires hanging from the detached tourpack, then the bike harness wires just coil up under the side covers below the seat. Takes 10 mins to put it on and wire it up.

I keep the tourpack under a shelf in the garage, covered up

I also added a few other choice things to the tourpack.

The lid organizer

Plus the new air wing rack

Which I didn't hook up the running light side (the way they have it set up)of the LED cause I wanted just a center brake only light for more attn.

Not too mention the fully adjustable backrest I will be using allot next w/e

Man that's exactly what I was looking for and then some....looks great both with and without the tour pack. $600 is more than I expected, the HD site isn't really clear about everything you need to pull this off. I'm gonna try to find the cash though your bike turned out great!!!

Thanks!!!!!

Glad it helped.

It seems to amaze me how some things from HD are priced "right", others are "cheaper", and things like this are priced down right "expensive".

There are allot of parts in this $600 kit but to me... not that much.

Further, on the plate relocation kit, don't stick on the super dumb reflector under the plate like they say. Instead get a enlarged plate frame over the plate. Much nicer and cleaner look. You can see the lower "extended" part in this pic

Took a few cell phone pics for you.

Here's a better shot of the plate frame instead of the reflector

Here's a pic of the added loc piece. You can see the locking pin in the top, pressed in (locked).

And lastly a pic of the ant. relocation. The ant screws here when the tourpack is MIA then when the tourpack is on, the ant co-axe extension screws on top and then the ants go back in the stock location.

Dude:
That is one clean setup I would like that done as well but I refuse to pay those clowns $549 for the kit, which is nothing but about 3 lbs of chrome steel...that and the fact that they want $250 to have it installed...f'em!
I took out the tourpak but changed my rear lights so that the license plate would be under my brake light, looks much cleaner, not like a billboard.

This is one of those HD parts that is over priced. But it just looks so good... I bit the bullet.
