| | Re: GPS On Harley Bagger Motorcycles I wouldnt think I am too STUCK UP to get one. I just happen to have a very good pornographic memory and can memorize a map, along with a good sense of direction. I leave the rest up to chance and the whole mystery of life.
Uh, waitaminit, maybe that is photographic memory. |

| | Re: GPS On Harley Bagger Motorcycles Yup. actually I have met a lot of nice people when I stop to ask directions. Me and a buddy went on a road trip back in '05. Every time we stopped it was a 1 to 2 hour ordeal talking to people about bikes etc. He kinda was magnetic to the ladies... they liked the tattooes and the mean bike he rode. Mine was just too shiney... or I'm too ugly, but thats ok... that/'s another thread...
I have traveled so much over this west coast that a quick look at the map before I head out in any direction will get me close. but a gps is just an electronic map, so the more I think about it, I really dont know what the difference really is.
If I ever get to ride cross country... I may just get one.
Now look what ya done.... I went from saying I'll "never" have one, to... well... maybe..... |

Sometimes I'll look at a map in the morning, and try to remember the Highway numbers I want to take. My old riding partner has a grease pencil that he writes stuff on his gas tank, like mileage, highway numbers, etc.... |

| | Re: GPS On Harley Bagger Motorcycles I never travel without a map clipped to my windshield, and a Garmin Nuvi on the bars. The map tells me where I want to go, and the Nuvi tells me where I am.
I like to travel back county roads that parallel main highways. The Garmin is perfect for this.
Also tells me I am going into a town and shows roads around it.
I have found the best roads with one, and would not travel without it.
Also great to flag good roads to be able to find it later.
Getting lost is great, you don’t have to use it all the time, knowing where gas food is, even better.
My Nuvi has a battery that you plug in to charge, is good for five six hours, but have a adapter on my bike, so don’t use the battery. |

| | Re: GPS On Harley Bagger Motorcycles I have the Garmin Zumo 550 as well. Its a great traveling tool to be sure. When I was out west, it told me altitudes, directions, compass, just about all things needed when on the open road. I have it hard wired to my bike. Its removable, and you don't have to even turn it on if you don't want to. Its a real pleasure to have when needed. And it will find gas stations, restaraunts, just about anything you will need out there. Like I said, great tool. | | | |
