Wink It's contagious!! Winter time mods {pic overload}

Well, its not much... but a few things I have been collecting to do to the bikes.

For the ultra:
Hogtunes Tweater Pods, luggauge roll for my air wing rack, 2 half helmet headsets, 2 HID kits, lots of wiring upgrades, grab on grip covers, K&N air filter, security siren, security pager, SG mirrors.

Then the Nightster:
Derby, timing, and front axle cover, and blinker relocation kit

Haven't got to the nightster yet...

Installed the replacement K&N air filter.

I decided to top off the sounds with the Hogtunes Tweater pod. Suppose to GREATLY increase your sound. See why HERE

They come with 2 sets of grills...

These:

But I want to make them match my stock speaker location covers.

Simply remove them

Install the 2nd set of covers that they provide.

Using their template and its BEYOND easy! Drill the 2 holes

One for the wire and one for the mounting screws

Wire them in with the provided Y-connectors

Can't wait to try em out on the road.

Swappin out the Ultra mirrors for the cleaner look of the SG mirrors.

Old:

With the provided template it really was easy. used a paint marker to help set it up... then bust out the drill... AGAIN. YIKES!

Then simply thread on the nut... DONE!

Installed the HD security II system

Really don't get any easier than that. Tnx HD. Now the bike will siren when its disturbed and page me.

Now on-ward to more frustrating things... The HID install.
a 8K 55W H4 hi/lo headlight bulb
a set of 6k 35W 880 spot light bulbs

Pull the outer fairing

Pull the stock H4 out

The hi/lo H4 HID bulb

Remove the tip cover cause my headlamp already has one

Modify the stock hd rubber boot slightly... but HID bulb installed

Putting the stock bulb in this case the HID came in as on "on road" repair for "just in case".

Well looking at the number of battery powers I need in the fairing... 1 for the hogtunes amp, 1 for the headlight, 2 for the spot lights. I decided I would make a mod. Run some car stereo 8 gauge power wire from the battery to the front fairing. Then a 4 spot fusable power distribution block. This will be supplemental (read: overkill) to the inline fuses for each item.

To get this power block, 3 ballasts, and a hi/lo converter in the fairing. We don't want them bouncing around. Brackets are needed!

Some flat sheet metal around the garage... made some cardboard templates and poof.

Some spray paint for anti-corrosion

Mount the hi/low converter on the back (this is for the headlight)

Power block on the front

Right side for the 3 ballasts

This is about when I ran into problems...when I purchased the HID kit, the company said the 880 bulbs would fit in my 881 holes. Lets see how that goes...

Stock

Comparison

Oh no Scooby... the new one is a bit longer.

When I try to install into the spot lamp, its about 1/8" too long. It hits the inside of the lens before I can spin/lock the bulb into place.

I have placed a few calls and an email into the company to see how we continue from here. I will still have to work around how to wire them into the spot housing. But can't worry about that right now...

Stay tuned...

OH yeah... cabin fever. A couple a weeks ago wifey had me doing wall repairs and painting... I finished that and on to this. Only got about 6-8 weeks more of this hibernation.

No problem Mike... I'm all about pics and posting...

I finally got thru to the HID company via email. Don't ya hate when a phone call don't work anymore!

Anyway, he said they are all going to be longer.

Did some searching around on the net. Looks like the aftermarket lenses that take H3 bulbs will swallow the little HID bulbs. So need to call Kury tomry and see if they can tell me how much depth they have in those aftermarket lenses/lamps, and have the HID company give me a depth of bulb as well.

Chris; That is a better use of the Benjamins than wall paper for sure! Make sure you post your opinions of the tweeter pods after you road test them.

Forgot to update this... so....

Update:

Quote:
No way I give up that easy on HID. Remember I know the routine... custom don't bolt on.

I seem to get decent response time with emails.

My complaignt. I asked them before I purchased anything. To ensure these 880 bulbs would fit my HD passing lamps. But now that they don't, they won't exchange them for a different bulb so that I can use it in a different lamp/lens. GHEY!

However, at least replacement bulbs are only $15. Maybe they'll cut me a break on S&H.

I have found others that have done HIDs in aftermarket lenses. The aftermarkets, Adjure brand ($80), uses a H3 bulb not a 880/881. The HID company tells me the H3 bulb is 1.5" from base to tip. I measured the 880 at 1.85" The stock HD lens interior depth to coincide with the base tip length is 1.75". That is the 0.10" shortness that the 880 hid won't fit. If the aftermarket lens carriers the same interior depth the H3 (1.5") will fit no problems!!

Waiting to hear back from Adjure to get more info on their lens depth.

My brother in law wants to hack the stock HD lens. However, I think I would rather buy a new lens, perhaps sell the stock lens to recoup costs. Versus hacking it, possibly not working and still being out $80 for new lenses.
