Default Springer Front Brakes

Considering going to a better set up than the single piston stock unit.

07 Springer Classic

Any suggestions?

I thought I heard GMA went under.

Shame as they made some good products for a lot of years.

Hi Blues

Hope you are not disappointed..

I've used and/or am currenty using GMA's, PM, Hurst/Airheart, Brembo or Grimeka (it doesn't say) and a few diff HD brakes and I just haven't been able to say that any of them are any better that stock HD calipers----dual action (two or more pistons) or single action (single piston)..

Now, I'm not saying I think HD's are better it just that they all are about as equal as heck in My experience..

Now, sometimes all it takes is using a one-size smaller Master cylinder.. The action, feel, and percieved pressure can make a great diff..

Default Springer

Any thoughts on why the factory limits springers to single piston ?

Hi Wright

Are you asking me..?????

I would bet a dime to a doughnut that it's because single pistons stop every bit as good as dual pistons,, at least that's been my experience..

Single action calipers move around as needed, they aren't solid mounted like dual action must be.. At least, I've never seen a dual-action dual-piston that was not a solid mount..

As I'm sure you know,, the singles slide in and out and are much more forgiving of fitment..

One other thing I forgot to mention to Blues is rotor compound..
I've used the mild steel and stainless rotors.. I got great braking outa the mild steel.. Not so good outa the stainless..
But a few years ago I replaced a stainless steel rotor with a Ductile Iron rotor and the diff was evident when used with the same caliper and pads..
I think stainless steel rotors are shameful, they don't stop any where as good as mild steel or the Ductile Iron rotors.. Ya gotta try diff things to know what works for you and what don't..

i have heard it said that the reason that springer brakes aren't any better than they are is that the increased braking pressure could possibly twist the fork!? Anyone heard this before?
