You don't need to change your lower legs...
GMA makes a set of dual fronts that fit right up to your 49-early 77 lowers... PM makes em also, almost identical... You only want to fit up one, sell the other, but why not use both..??

In the new Jireh catalog page 5-57, part 90-7...

If you like another style of GMA, PM or almost any other caliper, I'm sure you can fit it up with very little trouble, ya just gotta make your own bracket fasteners, quite easy if you can work with tools...
I fit up an unknown caliper to some old lowers on the 93" years ago, works perfect, saved my ass many times... You can hardly see it in my photo album,,,"over 200,000 miles" I'll take better pics and send em to you if you're interested, give you an idea how easy it is...

you certainly dont need to change up your front end - but it seems you are at a cross roads here - a set of mid glide trees, nice fresh late year legs and internals, maybe a race tech valve emulator set up - whala - and for "not a ton o cash" you can really have a major impact on your bikes personality and road manners - all for the good, believe me...

yes you sacrifice keeping the bike original - but if its a keeper, who the hell cares? if its not - keep the stock crap an give sell it with the bike when the time comes....

this is one area where going over to a modern setup - and can you can buy COMPLETE front ends - the whole damn thing - wheel fender, brakes, lines, handlebars, etc, etc - on sites like ebay for a few hundred

decisions decisions
