| | Harley uses DOT 5. Be careful, mixed brake fluids will coagulate. NAPA, Carquest, any after market supplier (JP Cycles etc) will have DOT 5 Posted by: Pitar on Feb 1, 06 1:31:51 pm |

| | 883, you don't have any bike shops there? Pitar nailed it, just shope online, but most bikes run DOT5, so pretty much any bike shop would carry it. Posted by: Majicbringer on Feb 3, 06 8:21:31 am |

| | Thnx Guys for the help. I live in central India so its impossible to get DOT 5 here so I will shop on-line for it. They only got DOT 3 & 4 here.
The cover seemed to have come loose on the front brake resevoir and I lost some fluid so I just need a top up. Posted by: 883R on Feb 7, 06 7:13:53 am |

| | While were on the subject... the dot 5 i get here is purple. Are the brake fluids normally colored , or is it just the company that makes it . I've seen yellow brake fluid too. Is it just dot 5 that's colored? Thanks Posted by: quickster on Feb 10, 06 6:37:51 pm |

| | Just to let you know, in 2005 some of the HD's went to dot 4. Can't remember which ones. I believe all of the 06 models now have dot 4. Please correct me if I am wrong. Posted by: froggy on Apr 13, 06 12:35:30 pm |

| | | In 2005 only the FLH/FLT families were changed to DOT4.
In 2006 all other models were changed to DOT4.
DOT4 absorbs water and ruins your paint just like DOT3, but it has a higher boiling point.
Theoretically DOT3 and DOT4 will mix in an emergency situation, DO NOT DO THIS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME!
Neither DOT3 or DOT4 will mix with DOT5. | | |
