I can't get DOT 5 here. Is it possible to use DOT 4 instead??

Harley uses DOT 5. Be careful, mixed brake fluids will coagulate. NAPA, Carquest, any after market supplier (JP Cycles etc) will have DOT 5

883, you don't have any bike shops there? Pitar nailed it, just shope online, but most bikes run DOT5, so pretty much any bike shop would carry it.

Thnx Guys for the help. I live in central India so its impossible to get DOT 5 here so I will shop on-line for it. They only got DOT 3 & 4 here.

The cover seemed to have come loose on the front brake resevoir and I lost some fluid so I just need a top up.

While were on the subject... the dot 5 i get here is purple. Are the brake fluids normally colored , or is it just the company that makes it . I've seen yellow brake fluid too. Is it just dot 5 that's colored? Thanks

Just to let you know, in 2005 some of the HD's went to dot 4. Can't remember which ones. I believe all of the 06 models now have dot 4. Please correct me if I am wrong.

In 2005 only the FLH/FLT families were changed to DOT4.
In 2006 all other models were changed to DOT4.
DOT4 absorbs water and ruins your paint just like DOT3, but it has a higher boiling point.
Theoretically DOT3 and DOT4 will mix in an emergency situation,
DO NOT DO THIS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME!
Neither DOT3 or DOT4 will mix with DOT5.
