| | Front Brake Squeal on a 2001 FLHTCUI I have a 2001 FLHTCUI with 8000 miles on it, I brought the bike to repair shop to nhave them look at the front brakes. I was told that there was nothing wrong with them but the squeal is still there. there was an article about a road king front brake squeal, is that the same fix for my Ultra? | | The new Harley Pads have alot of metal in them...hence the squeal and scratching sound. I just put a pair of aftermarket kevlar pads in last night to try and remedy this problem. I cant take the noise any more. Havent had a chance to log some miles or road test yet. If it solves the problem I'll let ya know. The HD pads I removed were loaded with metal. | | Re: Front Brake Squeal on a 2001 FLHTCUI I would like to know if changing the pads made a difference. I have an o7 Road King
classic with 11K miles and the brakes squealed from day one. The dealer reversed the rotors, changed the rotors, changed the pads and replaced the calipers. The squeal has never gone away. Any fix would be appreciated. Thanks

| | Re: Front Brake Squeal on a 2001 FLHTCUI Try a different brake pad. LRB pads are suppost to not make noise or dust. But give better stopping power, longer life without damaging your rotors.

| | Re: Front Brake Squeal on a 2001 FLHTCUI Hi Barry
I have had good results with Anti-Squeal/vibration shims made by SBS..
No. 9500-4..
Kinda rubbery, thin, with a Stick-on backing that sticks to the Back of the Pad and makes hard contact with the caliper puck/piston..
They dis-courage the vibration of the metal back of the pads against the metal caliper piston that causes the squeal.. Never had one come off on me..
I'm pretty sure other manuf's make them also..
Sometimes all it takes is removing the pads and rubbing the brake material on some 200 grit on a flat surface/glass/tile etc etc..
And/or lift the rear end and spin the wheel with a piece of 200 or 400 grit in your hand as flat as you can against the rotor,, both sides..
I removed the Brake material very cleanly from 2 old pads and stuck stick-um 400 grit to the business sides..
Then in-stalled them in the caliper and let the motor spin the wheel slowly at high idle while keeping light-med pressure on the brake so they could very effciently kinda re-surface the rotor..
That works too sometimes..
I've done lotsa things to get rid of squeal,, some work some don't..
Have a ball

| | Re: Front Brake Squeal on a 2001 FLHTCUI I run EBC brake pads all the way around & have no squeal, plus better brake action.
P.S. They average 10 bucks a set less than O.E.M.

| | Re: Front Brake Squeal on a 2001 FLHTCUI If you want a cheap fix, and don't want to spring for new pads, this will work.
Take the pads out, and slightly bevel the edges of the pad. Clean the backing plate and spray anti squeal on them. (you want enough of a coat to eliminate metal to metal contact where the caliper piston rubs on the pad backing plate)
Your squeal will be gone.
